The oil level always reads low on my 2006 Subaru.
I've changed the oil twice so far. The capacity is 5.8 quarts but I always add 6 quarts. Still, the level on the dipstick is exactly halfway between the low (L) and full (F) marks, even after sitting overnight.
Any thoughts on why? Maybe my dipstick is too short?

Opposite problem on my 02 Ecotec. Maybe I should have asked the dealer, but they questioned my ability for complex operations like changing the oil when I had to buy a cartridge element there.

No, I'm not using an oversized filter.
I called Subaru of America about it and they said they had never heard of this problem and suggested I take it to the dealer. Maybe I will at some point, but I don't think there is anything the dealer can do other than to confirm that it does read low.
I doubt it's a problem really, but it is annoying.
