Thanks for posting all these threads, awesome! You may also find some assistance in these threads specific to the 2.5L:
So unlike the 2.0L Skactiv engine, the Skyactiv 2.5L takes a bit more than what the manual states to hit the top hole on the dipstick. PimTac correctly told me this a few weeks ago.
Per the Mazda manual, the 2.5L engine takes exactly 4.8qts with a filter change. However, 4.8qts only brings the oil up to slightly above half when hot. When cold it is about 1/2 of the dipstick. I'm not sure why this is the case. Are they accounting for fuel dilution?
The correct way to check the oil in this car is to bring the engine up to operating temperature, the re-check after the car has been off for...

Did my first oil change on my new to me 2020 Mazda CX5 Grand Touring. 2.5 non-turbo.
Manual and websites say 4.8 qts. Why did it take 5.5 qts. to bring the oil to the full mark on the dipstick?
I used ramps, so the front up on an incline. While the oil and filter was draining I jacked up the rear to level the car out. Nothing addition seemed to drain out while raising the rear to level.
I have been working on cars for years and aware of all the stuff, like car level, wait until all oil returns to oil pan etc.
Just surprised it took .7 qts. more than the book calls for to get to the...

I just replaced the factory fill on the wife's 2016 CX5. It has the 2.5L engine that calls for 4.8 qts of 0w20.
After replacing it, I can't get a reading on the dipstick - even after letting it sit all night. I checked underneath and it is as dry as a bone. I always use a new crush washer, and this time was no exception. So I am not really concerned since the oil could not have gone anywhere. It is just hiding somewhere...
Anyone else with a CX5 have trouble reading oil on the dipstick?

Considering a new Mazda CX-5 and a main reason is the great reviews of the Skyactive 2.5L engine . It looks like it will run well on either the specified 0W20 or 5W30 ... Your preference and experiences in a synthetic oil for the Skyactive 2.5L ?

It is well known that the 2019 Mazda CX 5 owners manual for the 2.5L turbo engine shows an incorrect oil capacity at 5.1 quarts with an oil filter replacement. Adding a 5 quart jug for an oil & filter change will only bring the oil up to halfway between the low and high dots on the dipstick and in order to fill to the max level dot on the dipstick it actually takes 5.5 quarts.
I wasn't careful in adding that extra half quart and may have added 2-3 ounces too much. Is this oil level on the dipstick enough to be concerned with that I should try and remove a few ounces ?![]()
