Considering a new Mazda CX-5 and a main reason is the great reviews of the Skyactive 2.5L engine . It looks like it will run well on either the specified 0W20 or 5W30 ... Your preference and experiences in a synthetic oil for the Skyactive 2.5L ?

This is just me. ;)
I like any oil from SuperTech(or any store brand) to PUP(or any major brand).

Try either grade of oil for yourself as your preferences may differ from others. I like a 5W30(if allowed) just because it is a good go-to grade. And use an oil with the quality that your driving style will require. If you drive like a human being, use any good known brand of oil(0W20 or 5W30 synthetic). If you drive more aggressively or like you stole the vehicle, use the quality of oil for that type of driving.

The OP didn't specify if he was considering the regular or turbocharged 2.5L engine. I highly recommend the turbo version unless the price is really critical.

Anyway, in my CX 5 with the 2.5L turbo I use Mobil 1 5W-30 EP (Extended Performance) and only Mazda filters. I also change the oil & filter every 5000 miles.

My reasoning ? That formula Mobil 1 oil is very robust and has a low sulfated ash content which is supposed to be better for DI engines.
It also is readily available and very moderately priced. A 5000 mile OCI seems somewhat excessive but that's about all I put on the car in a year, and the cost of an oil & filter change (DIY) is less than $40. No big deal.

Also, the Mazda filters are recommended even though outstanding filters are available from Mobil 1 and Fram Ultra. We don't know if non-factory filters meet Mazda's criteria and specifications regarding the Anti Drain Back valves.

Enjoy your CX 5. Every time I drive mine I am still impressed with what a nice riding and handling vehicle it is and the turbo engine really helps.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act - if aftermarket part meets or exceeds oe requirements they cant do squat. I felt the same way it gave me the warm and fuzzies using oe filter. Many oe are made by and a long side the big brands that manufacture the aftermarket filters, I've watched enough oil filter autopsies.

Considering the Mazda filters don't contain an ADBV, I think we're safe.

So far I'm running on the Factory fill. Just over 1100 miles now. Looks like just short of 450 miles a month. So far the oil has not dropped at all. Staying right on the full mark. The cylinder deactivation most of the time unless you have the cylinder deactivation monitor on you won't even notice when it happens. Going to try Mobil 1 EP on my first change the 5W-30 flavor. Just picked up three Jugs from Walmart on Rollback at a good price. I think I'm going to an October OCI from my current October/April change.

Good thing you got a deal. The prices are definitely up.

My M6 is at 55k using primarily NAPA synthetic (Valvoline) with no complaints. I used 0w-20 but now that the warranty has expired my next full will be 5w-30.

*Non - Turbo !

Unfortunately, at least per my info, NLA. Unless u recently know otherwise?
Correct, the made in Japan Roki filters have been superseded by filters made in Thailand.

Who knows if the Thailand filters are made by Roki or not? The filters are not marked as such, unlike the ones made in Japan. They only have Mazda and the part number. There are several oil filter factories in Thailand.

Those are the ones I get. In all respects they look very good and are well built. Efficiency is unknown but I trust that they do the job well.

I believe the Thailand filters are made by Denso
