Hey all,

Went to Pepboys today to return $10 worth of stuff I didn't need for a job. While there, I decided to peruse the oil aisle to see if there was any sales.

I find myself looking at castrol syntec + purolator pureone oil filter for $28.

Now, the PureOne is my favorite oil filter. And I've never tried German Castrol 0w30, and it's staring me there in the face.

I figure "Well, that's about what I spend on PP 5w30 or Rotella T 5w40 + PureOne oil filter" and I walk out with 5 quarts, a great oil filter, and $28 less.

But I realize: I've got 30 quarts of oil in my basement and this wasn't a great deal. Why do I do this?

Anyone else have these moments?

Yes. However, right now I only try to stock pile for my 2005 Grand Caravan. I have 18 quarts (about 4 yrs worth) of old fromula Havoline 10W/30 to use up in my 1998 GMC Jimmy. I also bought a case (12) of Napa Gold filters at about $3/filter for my Grand Caravan.

Heck, thats nothing,, i have purchased over 6 cases of oil for my Silverado and 12 cases of Bardahl 20W50 for $1.25 per quart of oil for my Harley in the past year.. it will take me 10 years to use up all that oil (for the bike) .. my truck takes 6 quarts every oil change so thats only 2 oil changes per case.. i change my oil every 3000 miles , but i never use synthetic,, only dino.

I was in an AZ in Roanoke for business. They had 5L jugs of Lubro-Moly 10W-40 for, honest to God, a nickle. $.05 for a 5L jug of motor oil. I asked how many he had, and he had 6. It's rated ACEA B3, which is what my VW TDI takes. That makes it about 3 years worth of oil changes. I just bought a 5 gal. pail of Mobil Delvac 1300 for $49.99 with an $18 rebate. Not dumb when I have to change the oil in my Powerstroke every 5K, at 15 qts.per change. Sometimes it's smart to be ahead of the curve. In all the world, there are many worse things to be than a motor oil hoarder.

Yes. When I saw PP on sale here in Canada I bought 10 jugs of the stuff... then brought a few back a couple of days later, only to go back a couple days later again and purchase them back.

It's a terrible disease really :)

Impulse buying CAN make sense. Since I've joined I saved $80. I had no idea these rebates existed before BITOG.
2/jugs of M1 $20 rebate
3/jugs of PP $45 in 2 separate rebates
5/quarts of Edge $15 rebate

So, about 2 years of oil changes at bargain prices.

The "Product Rebates, Sales and Promotions" forum is your friend. We can collectively find some great deals.
Do you remember the first Wally $15.00 gift card MIR on a 5 qt jug of PP post? Memebers were describing it as a hoax, and suggesting that the thread be deleted and the OP be banned.
It was, of course, no hoax.
This board gives you a valuable heads-up on deals for oil, filters and so on.
Taking advantage of deals as they come along is not impulsive, rather it is planning ahead.

I actually went to redrooster yesterday and found amsoil on sail for $7.99. I bought and changed my oil later that day, even though I have some amsoil SSO comming in.

Wheres my shipment Chris?

Autozone have 5 quarts of Castrol Syntec and a Mobil 1 filter for the same price you paid at Pepboys to get a Purolator Pure One instead.

I've been getting 5q Edge with a $12 Ecotec filter for under $2. How can I pass that up? Did it x3, and I DO NOT need more oil. I actually think it'll be saved for my next car!

I'd rather have a PureOne.

Mobil 1 retails almost double of what the Pure One does. I always figured most people would go Mobil 1 filter if it was the same price as the Pure One.
