Impulse Buying Items Seen in BITOG Threads

Tools for sure

Do I really need mid length 1/4 sockets?

The full HF 10mm set?

Flashlights, knives oh yeah fancy erse pliers and cutters of every stripe

I could have purchased a Ferrari!

Oooooo, I don't have one of those! More accurately, I didn't have one of those.

Taking a more proactive approach to my own car maintenance again, I found this forum. I've also realized there are many tools and gadgets I don't/didn't have. There wasn't any tool I didn't have to do what needed to be done, but these are things I didn't realize just how much I needed:
  • Magnetic Drain Plug Tool
  • Large Oil Funnel with Adapter for my Engine
  • HPL PPPCMO Oil, although I have Amsoil SS for three more OCs. Waiting for the 4th-of-July sale for more HPL
  • Lisle Funnel Kit for drain/fill coolant... and my car is brand new!
  • Jaco Digital Tire Pressure Gauge, because my analog ones, and the built-in Milwaukee 18v Inflator might be off by .2 PSI
  • Folding Oil Drain Funnel
  • Oil Filter Cutter
  • Oil Absorbent Pads
  • Portable Ramps
  • Pair of Heavy Duty Wheel Chocks
  • And of course, a Five Gallon, HD, Leak-Proof Container to take the used oil for recycling
Hi. My name is rsctso and I'm addicted to buying things I perceive may be needed in the future.
Not a bad starter list...however, you forgot to include the ubiquitous Mityvac type oil extractor praised by so many on BITOG!

Ha! On the cusp of retirement, I just sold off about 2/3 of my tools and automotive equipment in my garage sale.

My philosophy is to not do a thing that resembles "work" in any form in my retirement that I don't have to do. After 40 years of rotating 12hr shift work and 60hr work weeks, I deserve all the rest and leisure I can get. Absence of tools=leisure for me! LOL.
Great plan. In 6 months you can buy the tools you really wanted.

Got one already. Used it to change the oil on the Audi before getting rid of it for the Honda. At least it can be used to bleed the brakes in a few years when it's time.

Ok, I qualify there. Otherwise I haven't made many impulse buys. Last one was when someone posted about Advance Auto getting rid of oil, some version of Mobil I think, and that was a while ago.
December 2019, Mobil Super 5000 10w30, $3.65 for 5 quarts.

I don't remember my MIL's dog's name but I remember this stuff.

Congratulations on your near-retirement. I'm planning on sticking with my day job for now, as it affords me the opportunity to travel to London on their dime. Also, I work at home at a desk all day, and have rekindled the joy of working piddling on my vehicle. If my full-time job was manual labor, I wouldn't be the least bit interested in doing it, either.
Thank you, just for clarity I don't consider mine real manual labor. Its a technical role (GC, LC, GC-MS), but the hours are long. I started shift work at 21, and I am 61 now. In August my 40 year career ends!

I impulse purchased my Makita high torque impact wrench (that I don't need), but I try to keep those kinds of purchases to once in a blue moon. Add to that I recently bought a house, so my monthly mortgage reminds me not to make impulse buys. 🤪
