Thanks for the info. That's right at the low limit allowable for a 30-weight according to the API specs.

I may have undiagnosed dyslexia for all I know, but that link clearly reads 8% for 10w30 and 10.5% for the 5w30. I cant find any grade of Valvoline Synpower that has a NOACK of "less than 15%" for the spec.

That PDS says exactly what RamFan has posted. I'd say it's either time to see a therapist about that dyslexia, or an ophthalmologist about your eyes.

P.S.: You do recognize that the NOACK figures are shown on the 11th line down, on the "Test" chart at the bottom of page 1, right? (Not trying to be an @ss, just trying to decipher how you're missing such an obvious number.)

IDK what is going on here. I CAN read the chart and the values I see are different.

The NOACK, wt loss % is listed as 11.5 for the 0w20, 10 for the 5w20, 10.5 for the 5w30 and 8 for the 10w30

I dont understand how we can be looking at the same PDS and seeing different values. Not trying to be an @ss either, but those are the numbers I see on the linked PDS from Valvoline.

In fact, technically it has to be greater than 2.9cP.
I'm just wondering if Valvoline is just doing what Castrol does and provide the tech' minimums. One way to know for sure would be to get the HTHS vis spec's for some of their other grades such as the 10w30 Synpower (it should be somewhat higher) and their 0W-20 and 5W-20 grades.

I just clicked on the link and did a copy of line 11 of the "Test" chart at the bottom of page 1, and this is what I got...

It's a mystery to me...I dont see a spec of less than 15 for any grade listed. This is baffling to me...what is going on here?

Wait, I don't know how you're seeing it at that link, but I do know what you're seeing. I just took a look at an older PDS that I have on file and it gives the following values...

NOACK, wt. % loss
0W-20 = 11.5
5W-20 = 10
5w30 = 10.5
10W-30 = 8

Somehow, you're seeing the old PDS that has been superseded.

CORRECTION: I do know how you're seeing it. You're getting a cached page that hasn't been updated. Are you using some kind of web accelerator that uses cached pages?

Thats why my original post asked the OP what the effective date was for the PDS he was seeing. Mine says 4/22/2010 when I click on the link I posted...and when I go to the Valvoline site that is the PDS that comes up. I see now the PDS you capped has the Dexos spec as well, mine doesn't.

Mystery solved I guess...but I still dont understand how you guys are seeing something different from the same link????

Click on "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Programs" > "Programs and Features", then browse through your program list. If you have one, it'll probably use the term "Accelerator". Then there's always the possibility that it is related to your internet provider.

P.S.: You might find CCleaner to be very beneficial. Take a look at it, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me. CCleaner is free, BTW. The price they list is simply a "recommended" donation amount.

I've tried and tried but i cannot get the 12/15/10 PDS to load anywhere. The latest i can get is 4/22/10 without dexos1. I don't have any cache programs or anything like that setup.

Do you guys have some special inside access?

Check the last few posts of mine and see if anything would apply. You could also try clicking on, at the top right of your screen, "Tools" > "Internet Options" > "Delete" (under "Browsing history" on the "General" tab). To be honest, I wouldn't expect it to fix it, but I've seen stranger things happen...

I tried to clear both my cookies and cache, but nothing fixed it. Although i did find that if you go to google, type in the search "synpower 12/15/10" the first result should be the PDS. If you click directly on the link, it will still go to the 4/22/10 version, but clicking "Quick View" will load the new one. The second search result is all climate, and it was also updated on 12/15/10.

Strange.

Strange.

Either your provider is using cached pages or one of your programs is. Check the settings under "Browsing history", on the "Internet Options" page. Make sure it is set to automatically check for newer pages. Then ensure you don't have a web accelerator program. Google use to offer one that a lot of people still have.
 
Well guys, this is weird as [censored]. I got the new version by going to the Valvoline website and clicking on the PDS link that they have under the SynPower page. Maybe you guys can get the new one to load by doing it that way. Anyway, glad the mystery has been solved.

Yes. But it works so well it doesn't bother me any.
They may just be reporting their "generic" minimun spec, too.
