Im thinking of switching filters..

..and been using wix forever.Now Im looking for the best all around quality oil filter available,like filtration,flow,construction,ex..,if it exists.

I don't care who makes it(exept for fram) , or where its made.

I have two in mind,but would like some opinions before i pull the trigger. Thanks

I would keep using the Wix, especially because you can get them for a good deal. They are a well constructed filter.

Which ones you have in mind and why switch? Bad experience with Wix?

I'd use wix and purolator interchangably... Standard if in the 3k club, and something like an eao, m1, pure 1, etc if doing long ocis.

I was Reading the other thread linked to the rubicon filter review and that guy totally took a cr ap on the wix (i think hes nuts)But anyway thinking of mobil or bosch(i know their the same
but bosch is cheaper).

I drive past a NAPA store to and from work, so occasionally I buy Wix (NAPA branded) for my vehicles. I also get some Purolators from Amazon, that after rebate, are really inexpensive. Between the two and when you figure the price, what more can you want?

I believe that the Bosch are actually made by Purolator now - something about them selling their auto filter line recently. anyway, I would consider the Pure One to be a step up from Wix, and Mobil 1 filters to be a step above Purolator.

a while ago (and it may have been right here on this forum, I dont recall) someone was using used oil analysis to measure filter performance (blackstone will give you a list of particals in the oil, ranged by micron size.) anyway, it only seems logical to actually measure a filter by how clean the oil is. in this comparo, the Mobil 1 filter was much better at filtering than its opponent (EAO)

did anyone else see this comparison?

I wouldn't say an M1 is a step up from a PureOne. I think from a filtering and construction standpoint (the outer coating of the pureone aside), they are dead on, but with the PureOne so cheap ($4.75 each on Amazon even without the current rebate), the value kicks the M1 out of the going (IMO).

If you're seriously looking at switching, Baldwin filters have worked very well over the years for me, but I know they're not the easiest to find... Or, Hastings seem very close too. I believe they are actually owned by Baldwin, or so I've been told

Step up from Wix? I like the PureOnes a lot, but I would consider them at the same level.

I've honestly never torn apart a filter that I could say is obviously better than a Wix.

I agree, except when the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filters are 4.50 also. Frequently a Farm and Fleet chain store here has them on sale for 4.50 a piece. Last time I was in there I stocked up enough oil filters to keep two cars filtered for approx 5 years.

I would still put the Mobil 1 filter above the Pure One. I have seen reviews on them where they cut them apart and compare them all. The Mobil 1 Extended Performance filters are built like a tank.

That being said, the Pure One filters are one of the best values out there.

Well, there's your answer ... obviously, that guy didn't know shinola about oil filters. As anything on the 'net, you have to consider the source.

Bosch is the same as Purolator ... about between a Purolator Classic and PureONE.

I'd have no problem using: WIX/NAPA Gold, Purolator, Bosch, Motorcraft, Amsoil.

Given what has been posted about the Purolator PureONE's filtering efficiencies and beta ratios on other threads, do you really have a question?

The things that I don't like about the PureOne vs the Amsoil, M1, RP, or even Wix is that it uses pretty lightweight materials, there is no way the filter can is as strong as an Amsoil filter, and I'm not too keen on the bypass valve design. Other than that, if you look a PureOne there sure is a lot of filter material jammed in there

Ive read that Mobil has just as good filtration,but better flow than pureone.So if i can find the Mobil filter at a decent price ,I'm sold,because their 12 bucks around here(a little steep for a filter).If anyone has any links for a good price on Mobil, i would really appreciate it.

From what limited data I've seen, the PureONE flows just as good or better than any other high efficiency filter.

This is relative data, and you can see that the PureONE is up there with the others in terms of less flwo restriction than some others listed.

You guys need to rethink flow rates!

I dont think anyone has identified a better performing oil filter than the pure one, regardless of price....and does not one choose a filter based on.....its filtering ability??????? The reasonable price of the pure one is just an added windfall when compared to poorer performing Amsoil/M1/other premium priced options.

The only use for the thickness of the Mobil 1 filter's can is in NHRA/NASCAR. The oil pressures developed in street engines have no need for a bullet proof oil filter.
