I'm smart enough to know that I'm dumb.

Love this quote. Learning is for life. And I can laugh at the know-it-alls; they don't bother me. I realize I know only a little.

I feel compelled to present this graph showing the Dunning-Kruger effect. It sounds like you are in the valley of despair working your way to enlightenment, unlike some people who confidently talk about things they know nothing about.
So many seem use their title, degree, whatever, to belittle and disrespect other's thoughts. I kinda feel sorry for them.
We all have a piece of the puzzle.

I think that first peak usually comes in one’s early twenties. Especially, if one went to college.

There is wisdom in humility and an open mind.
One must always concede that there are things he doesn't know.
One who thinks he already knows is one who cannot, or will not, learn.
You miss out on a lot of opportunities that way.

Richard Feynman was one of the cleverest men to have ever lived so not remotely dumb intellectually. What he meant by that quotation was he was dumb in terms of the extent of his knowledge. That's why the quotation applies to us all because there will always be more knowledge to acquire regardless of our intelligence or current knowledge.

One side note. Sometimes while arguing with some dimwit about a technical issue that one has vast knowledge about (in my case it would be someone trying to argue with me about metallurgy), in exasperation they ask you to cite a source. I have a lot of stuff in my head that I've learned in my life over the decades, and I'll be darned if I can remember the title of the book or engineering journal I learned it from.

I once had a guy tell me that 192.168.1.0/24 is not the same as 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0. I just told him to write it that we he wanted and left it at that. No interest in explaining it to someone that is that unwilling to be even be curious enough to ask why.
