I still don't understand how the above premise can be substantiated.
I've been using conventional API TC3 rated oil for decades on engines new and old. Oldest is over thirty years old and the newest is three years old. I see barely a whisp of smoke in the new engines only when started and only a slight bit more smoke upon start up of the old engines. After the first two seconds or so, no smoke.
All engines start and run well. I get no plug fouling, no build up in the exhaust ports or mufflers. I have not seen a reduction in engine power and fuel consumption hasn't changed.
Having owned and used the same 30 year old engines from new, with no rebuilds and no appreciable loss of performance, I'd say that's an impressive achievement. I'm certain the cost of the oil I'm using is probably less as well.
So, how can any product claim to "head and shoulders above" what I'm using. What could it possibly deliver that would make it "head and shoulders above?
Give us some examples of how/why it's so much better. If you can't, why would you make such an endorsement of the product?
That's an easy question. It is not so much the manufacturer's claims, but the 2 cycle OWNER'S ringing endorsements of Mobil 1 2T.
1) I would guess that none of equipment you own, over your 30 years is powerful enough or demanding enough to test your oil's capabilities. If you told me that you raced 2 cycle motorcycles and had engine teardowns using mineral oils (with glowing results), I would be swayed - maybe.
2) I remember looking at forum dedicated to chainsaw users and arborists. Those guys did this for a living, not for a weekend. Many of them also lamented the "passing" of Mobil 1 2T a couple of years ago. They too, were searching for a substitute.
3) When you look at the exhaust ports and plug condition of the tons of two cycle trimmers and mowers that are "left on the curb" for the garbage man. What kind of 2 cycle oils do you think, those owners used, mineral or synthetic?
In summary, just be happy with the results of conventional API TC3 you are using. Some folks, are never going to be convinced, and are forever skeptical. This is the USA, I am glad we have a choice of products.
