if you had to pick one or the other

It looks like Husky for me too. It just looks a lot better. The HF one looks like it can fall over easily. It's not like the price difference is a lot.

I just bought a 4 drawer cart from HF for 100 bucks and it's not bad especially for the price.

we did this exact shopping trip @ my brothers place in dallas a couple years back.
went to Lowes, Sears, Home Depot, Harbor freight, northern tool, tractor supply, the whole lot.
ended up buying the Husky.
ended up being the best quality bang for the buck, and not cheap feeling, tinny Chinese carp.

Up until about 2000 or so there would have not even been a discussion about this in my family. the only Choice would have been a Kennedy. (Factory was 30 min from here - Van Wert, OH ; uncle worked for them for 30some years, then in the early 2000's they sold the brand off, and moved production to Mexico.)

One thing to look for when boxes get bigger is locking draws that you need to lift up on before they will open.

I saw a poor guy almost get hit will one when he was using it on a slight incline and had a couple of draws open.
They all opened and the thing came over, luckily he just dodged it. Its scary to watch believe me.

Depends. If floor space is at a premium, get the stackable storage going upwards. Other than that, I like the wider drawers a lot. Helps organize easier.

The US GENERAL brand at Harbor Freight is very good quality! However, the husky is probably the better fit for you as the others have said due to the dimensions being a little wider and more secure/safer.

Gotta love those HF China power names. "US General", that's even better than Pittsburgh.

Strumming on the heartstrings of the clueless I guess

For the occasional use tool HF often is fine, but for rugged use something better is preferred. I did recently buy a propane spot heater from HF, but as with many tools these days the ones I looked at were also imports. Not good. It's even hard to find welding rods and other welding supplies North American made.

The real sadness is when some of these products are actually better than the venerable Craftsman, a name we used to associate with quality and value.

I would buy the tool chest that suits your needs first regarding configuration, then the one that has the best build quality within your given price range. If they are all from China, I would not place too much emphasis on the place of purchase or name tag.
