It's more than just that we are a media generation; it's that there is more good information to report for WWII than there is for WWI.

Probably for us in the US, we didn't enter WWI until late in the war. The others had been slogging it out since 1914. The US entered in 1917 and even then it likely took a while to get boots on the ground after the April 1917 declaration of war on Germany.

The war ended 11/11/1918 so we were not part of it for as long as the other combatants.

In WW2, pearl harbor was attacked and we joined the war. It's probably why it was more emphasized.

I find nothing funny about war. If you talk to the older generations you will hear of the suffering and loss of loved ones. The reason we do not hear as much about WW1 is because a lot of things we take for granted had not been invented back then. Every war takes a toll on families with the loss of lives and the world as we knew it. My father was in WW11 and the ship next to his was blown up and my mom lived in fear that my dad would not return. I lived in fear that Tony would not return from Vietnam because we lost a lot of friends there. So before you want to reduce war to a joke think about the many lives that are lost then and now. I salute all members of the military from the past and today. If we did not have them we would not have the freedom we enjoy today.

I don't know that the US takes all the credit for winning WWI. What I usually see is the claim the US didn't contribute much and just claims it did. I think the US was providing a lot of aid even before we actually put troops on the ground and into combat. The massive level of sunk tonnage by German U-boats gives some idea of just how much aid we were giving. The US already at the time had more industrial output and steel production than Germany and Russia and the rest of the world combined. That sort of dispells the common myth that the US wasn't prosperous until after WWII and other countries were in disaray.

When the US put over a million troops on the ground a lot of sources say this completely changed the situation for Germany and they gave up. My grandfather was exposed to gas serving in WWI.

Ahhh...I don't find the bar fight allusion or comparison valid.

France and Britain would have piled up chairs and tables on one side of the bar and Germany would have done the same moving the line closer and closer until they were in each other's faces all the while throwing bottles and yelling from behind their respective barriers which in the actual war were called "trenches". They would have done this all through the night stopping only to celebrate Christmas for a bit and then gotten back at it in the morning.

What a waste of young men and women IMO. I think the geezers that start wars should get in the ring and the 18 year olds should watch and afterwards go have a beer together and agree to get along. Not the way it happens tho...

I think also WW1 was such a horrible meat grinder that it represents the worst in military and political leadership. It should have been stopped much earlier when it was obvious the cost in lives was too much for any possible gain by either side, but the leaders at the time carried on...
