there is no XG8316 Fram Ultra oil filter? For the Ford Zetec engines of the late 90s and early 2000's

Please make XG8316. Thank you!

Fords dont last this long ussualy, it makes sense to discontinue them as time goes on.

I am pretty sure fram manufactures more Toyota/Honda filters than ford.

The Ford Focus initially started out with a Motorcraft 400 oil filter, which was the comparative Fram 8316. This filter was declared to be too long for the engine compartment, as Ford saw Focuses coming in whose filters had been knocked off from road debris.

Ford revised the MC400, and introduced the MC910. The 910 is simply a shorter version than the 400, and is now the advised oil filter for Ford Focuses 2003 and newer, but can still be used on 00, 01, and 02 Focuses.

It would appear Fram followed Ford's move, and phased out the XG8316 for the XG8614 (which is the MC910 counterpart).

If you really want the Extended Guard, look for the XG8614.

Wow, I haven't gotten less than 12-15 years out of my fords till I get tired of them. I bought my new one in June 2006 and I hope to have it till at least 2021 or longer since its a wagon more or less. We traded in my wifes Mustang in after 11 years because we needed something with a larger person friendly back seat. I would've held on to that for another 5-10 years easy. My Father in Law is driving his 1997 Ford Ranger daily.

just like we rebuild more toyota and honda engines with under 100,000 miles than ford that is something that i thought i would never say 20 years ago. fact is the asian engines used to be the best but not anymore! I see it every day in my shop ford builds a great motor

So, if the FL-400S is the recommended filter why not use a FRAM Ultra 3600?

I believe he addressed that in the quote you used! See the red note ...

The original Motorcraft filter was FL-2005 (Purolator 25230), but Purolator didn't feel like making them anymore so they had everybody switch to the 400s (and Purolator's 20195). The overall size, thread and gasket diameters are the same, but the internal construction is different: the FL-2005 has an extra ADBV. When using the 400s (and equivalents) without it, the Zetec is grumpy when cold, noticeably more rough and noisy. Therefore, the FL-2005-type filter is a must.

Luckily, some companies are still making Zetec-specific oil filters:

Wix 51315, NAPA Gold 1315, Napa Platinum 41315, Mobil 1 M1-211, K&N HP-1012, and of course Fram's own PH/TG8316

Also, the Napa Platinum 41315 (Wix XP 51315XP) is on sale for $7.54 this month.

(Napa's Proselect, Silver and Gold Zetec oil filters cost more than other oil filters, but the Platinums are the same price)

Oh- I wouldn't say that ...

A few years ago, I was working the nighshift and after 12 hours, drove home at 0330 hours.

Walked in the door, stepped to the restroom, and looked in the mirror. I had driven the entire way home, with my safety glasses still on, ear plugs in place, and PPE gloves still on my hands.

Yes - I was "DWE" (driving while exhausted).

I am FAR from perfect; about as far as one can get at times.

Hi,
I might be the FRAM guy you are referring to? How can I help you? What year is your car? Let me know and I can tell you what your options are.

2002 Ford Focus, 2.0 DOHC, Vin 3

Your website says you have PH8316 and TG8316, but why no Ultra XG8316?

I'd like to see an XG filter for the Pentastar V6. Newer engine but there have to be a [censored] of a lot them being sold every day.

(Unless I missed it) Out of curiosity--what is wrong with the MC filter that has you seeking a different brand?

They don't make it anymore!

Original Motorcraft filter was FL-2005, but it has been discontinued. "Officially" Ford now wants you to use the 400s, but it simply doesn't work well on the Zetec even though thread and gasket size, as well as overall size of the filter are the same size.

The discontinued 2005 has an extra ADBV to better supply oil to a cold Zetec, which would otherwise be very grumpy and loud and harsh.

Purolator, which made the Motorcraft oil filters, and Bosch which owns Purolator, have discontinued Zetec-specific oil filters (the Puro Classic L25230 still exists, but I like the higher spec Pure One with its textured grip).

Wix, Mobil 1, and K&N still make the Zetec filter, and Fram does but only in the lower lines. But they don't make an Ultra for the Zetec, which is the whole point of this thread.

Do these "other" filters have the extra ADBV? Do you have a cut away pic showing the extra ADBV?

I don't have any cutaway pics of any of them, and the stores don't stock the M1-211 or K&N's HP-1012.

Napa has the 1315 filter, but I haven't gotten there yet.

However, I did see the Purolator L25230 at Kmart in their clearance, and it does have the extra ADBV right past the threaded hole. In addition, you can clearly see it in the stock photos online provided by Purolator

A photo that someone else posted on BITOG that I found by GIS of the Purolator part number(P)L25230. The base plate shows the second ADBV
