Where space permits, the 51516 or even 51515 can be "upgraded" for the 51348 in some applications. The 51516 for 51348 is VERY popular in many Toyota apps.
This is typical of many filter applications. The Wix site is nice because it gives you many attributes to compare/contrast. Just be careful to make sure you don't over/under engineer what has already been appropriately selected.
The comments on warranty are appropriate, but one needs to understand how M/M act would apply.
For example, if you selected a 51516 for 51348 application, you would have to know what "failed" to show if the alternate filter selection was even all or part of the root cause. Between these two filters, the following is the "same": gasket, burst pressure, bypass setting, flow rating, beta ratio. If an engine or filter were to fail, and the "blame" was pushed to an alternative filter selection, I would push back and ask how two filters rated for the same performance criteria would have different DFMEA and PFMEA rankings? As long as the application was within the design and operating parameters of each filter, then the failure mode is not a matter of filter selection, but likely of component failure unique to one produced unit (ie - a gasket was bad, a crimp was bad, etc).
