If Pennzoil is one of the best, why is it so cheap

Well I use to get oil pretty regular for about $1 a quart. Of course it was probably SH or SI rated. I got gas for $1 gallon too.All of this wasn't too long ago so I don't really see petroleum products as being all that cheap now.

In Canada it's not cheap unless it's on sale. Even on sale for $20/jug it's still 50-60% more expensive than PYB on sale.

Compared to M1, yes, it's much less expensive.

The reason we find it "cheap" is corporate policy. For instance the policy of Castrol is to overprice the products, and they get the market of the people who can be swindled into thinking that by paying more, the product must be better, even though it really is not. PYB just does not believe in swindling people, the same way that Mobil Oil, and Castrol do. They are not run by the same greedy thieving bunch, and they believe in selling a superb product at a fair price. However, the real bargain is Ashland: they sell their NAPA full synthetic group 3 for $3 per quart at NAPA stores during their sales. periodically check with NAPA at the beginning of the month flyer, and then stock up. MC 5w20 symi synthetic is also a super bargain at $11.50 a 5 qt. jug.

I would not critize Pennz at at all. A fine product at a fair price. But Scholtz, you are a bomb dropper. Just what ever comes out of your mouth will do with little or no experience attached to it. Boom!!

BUT it now uses about 100ppm of Boron in it's formulation.

Boron isn't a cheap additive, AFAIK!

I don't need much Moly. I have a roller valvetrain lol. It still has enough zddp to take care of the rings and bearings.

I agree. There really have been no issues with API SM oils where called for.

BITOG circa 2005 or 2006 when SM oils were announced and people were panicking once the first few UOA's came back with higher than normal wear and add pack was reduced to meet SM standards. People were going out of their way to stock up on SL oils. My, how things have changed.

GF-4. SM doesnt work for me AT ALL. Still think its junk. If you dont think the oil blenders and the additive Co's Chem E werent/arent running around with their hair on fire .. you cant upset that apple cart without serious ramification.

It is the Mobil Pegasus. Actually that is a photo of the pegasus setting on top of the old Mobil building in downtown Dallas.

Lets just call it a mid life crisis.

I thought I saw somewhere that SM had to give less valvetrain wear and perform better in several areas over SL?

Was it me and my switch to M1 0w40 from PP?! Sorry mate!

It would be something else to go 10k miles on the 0w40.. that would be almost a years worth of driving for me. How convenient that would be!

Ok, sorry for highjacking this thread. Johnny, pm me if you know something I don't

Which just goes to show you how much group think asserts its fiendish power.

Pennzoil is a good oil but how can you think it is the best? Its good but its not so cheap... In wal mart at this time its priced ok but even Wal mart tried to push up the price and they did problem is their sales went way down i know i was shopping for oil there one time and they had tons of it and when i asked my sons friend which works there why they had so much he said they raised the price and sales hit the skids (in his words)
Actually when the price went way up on Pennzoil i started using Conoco-Phillips which we buy in bulk for our shop Great oil at a great price..

Senility is a [censored] of a thing.

What makes you think it is one of the best's? It is at best cheap and more then enough for most North American user's! It is not even close to the best. In fact Amsoil S3K would kick it's teeth in date it's sister and Mary it Mother all at the same time that is how wimpy PP is!

Seriously how many people are asleep at the wheel look at it's number's look at independent lab test's conducted for Amsoil. It is not even close to the best it is not even close to M1 which consistently comes in second place for the last 20 years to Amsoil!Wake up people it is one thing to lie tot he mass's quite another to lie to yourself or to believe a lie!
