It seems Mobil 1 was or still is ? The Anointed One. It can Do no Wrong, and Bashes upon it are met with Scorn! However, i seem to sense that it keeps coming up Short in Post after Post!

I do NOT Remember the Specific Posts, but:

1) It has too much of a Phosphorous Element? May not be exact case..
2) It Burns off in Many Engines, and causes Noise
3) It seems to get Beat, for those that have experimented, by Pennzoil Ultra, even PP

It also may be a Very Good Oil, however.. perhaps M1 has been De-Throned?

(Synthetic variation, forgot they have Conventional still.)

The issue seems to be that those that have used it since "Factory Fill" See no reason to switch, which is a valid point.

I honestly have never had good luck with M1. Every car I've ever used it in has gotten nosier and it tends to burn more oil then it normally would if it did at all. Lots of valvetrain noise though.

No, maybe, undetermined. Also Mobil 1 what grade? They are all very different. I am no EoM fanboy, but I havent seen any comprehensive, reproducible, vigorous study showing the superiority of any oil overall. If you like something better for whatever reason (cool looking bottle and free T-shirt)then run with it. Now, If you're maintaing a fleet of HD diesel tractors then you may want to know more ...

I'll give you a simple answer, then the thread can be locked.

Synthetics are in demand, and other capable companies are now producing them. The competition is fierce and the others have caught up. Realize Mobil 1 is XOM's flagship product and will always be among the top oils on the market. It's a safe bet.

I may run the 10w30 HM in my Toyota 1nZ- this should be the Amsoil ATM of th M1 catalogue and a standard bearer for PAO syn. Its sitting in my stash and wants to get in the sump!

My buddy with a saab turbo said after 3 OCI with the m1 5w30 the noise and consumption dissapeared. Or maybe the HT06 spec he's now using is "improved".

And you figured this out in your 10 day tenure on this site?

It has over 50% market share of synthetic oils. It's by definition average.

If you hear a lot of complaints and stories about it, it's because it sells in such large volumes.

It doesn't have high phosphorus/zddp amounts. Some people who are too stupid to understand that the 800ppm limit only applies to energy conserving grades aren't self aware of their condition and think all sorts of brands are out of spec when they really aren't.

As to burn off, who knows. The Noack looks fine to me, but why let science get in the way of theory? I mean... er... your cutlass with 206,000 miles that only burns M1 but the only other oil you've ever used is xxx brand.

it was in your car right?

Yes sir, I did run Mobil 1 0W-20 in my wife's Honda Element last winter and it did just great. It now has Pennzoil Ultra 5W-20 in it.

I might also add there was no consumption and no strange noises either.

I have had that same experience

M1 is a great oil with many folks swearing alligence to M1. I have used M1 and never once had an issue, I have made a switch to PP and haven't gone back to any other syn engine oil.
