If every SM is good...

First of all, I would think the SL oil would offer better protection...Most of the oils they sell at those dollar stores are SL rated oils.

But I muyself have thought about running the dollar store oil but why do that since I get Trop-artic 10w30 syn-blend from Sam's Club for about 2.25 a qt???

Yeah, good point, but on the back, it for sure says Warren Oil Company.

Warren Oil is good oil. They make the SuperTech brand for many Walmarts, and UOA on super tech comes back really nice. i would not hesitate to run it, but 2.50 a quart is EXPENSIVE, i just bought oil in canada for $1.50 a quart for SM 5w20, which actually IS group II+. 10W40 is probably group I, but given that USA facilities are geared up to produce group II, there is an even chance that it has some group II in it.

I think the price was high because it was in a dollar store. They have bad prices on oil around here, kind of like buying oil at a gas station. But it was the cheapest oil they had. Well, they only had two kinds, Quaker State and this stuff. I wonder how similar, if at all, this oil is to a SuperTech oil.

Hey, I'm also in Ontario, Canada, can you tell me where you bought the SM 5W20 for $1.50 per quart? That's an awsome price, I wouldn't mind picking up some for myself.

Hehehe...

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who took note of the dog. Did you notice that he's sort of looking at him to the side, like he's wondering, "What the heck is he doing with that stupid bottle?"

You have to be careful with Dollar Store oils. Our Dollar General sells SM STP oil for $2.69/qt and they also sell some cheap SF rated [censored] for cars built in 1988!

I don't see how an '88 Trans Am with a factory 350ci roller small block 350 V8 is any different than my '98 Jeep with a factory 360ci roller small block V8 that I am using SM oil in right now?

SF oils are supposed to have the "good stuff" as far as additives go are they not? And back in '88 cars had O2 sensors & catalytic converters too.

Isn't some of the Max Life SF?

Warren oil? There is Warren Unilube, who does not make ST oils and then there is Warren Performance Products, who does.

Either way, I would run that oil, no problem.

I would not use it based on the look on your dog's face in the pic. He doesn't look too excited about using an old SM rated oil...

I doubt many 10W oils are Group I these days, it seem to be almost as prohibitively expensive to refine different oils for every weight as to just use the same base oil materials in different formulations......

American XT is bottled by Warren Oil(Unilube), who also bottles Coastal and Advance Auto house brand.

Warren Performance Products bottles a bunch of house brands, including some SuperTech and I believe Autozone house brand.

Two separate companies.

Ive seen the XT oil from time to time, it is SM rated with the donut on the back. Ive thought about getting some, but there are other brands out there which are same price or cheaper. If it were $1.50/qt Id buy it, no problem.

it is coastal oil made by warren out out of tenn..it is good oil...their engine is a lot better off now thx to you

I hope it is. The engine noise is INSANE. It is still ticking very loud, and the warmer it gets, the louder the engine gets. I mean, it sounds like it's going to blow up. That's with 10W-40 in the little 4 banger. This stuff moves around in the bottle more like a 15w40. I had wound it out a few times, but it doesn't make enough power, but the engine noise goes down once the revs get to around probably 3500RPM or so. This would be one vehicle I would actually willingly put Seafoam into the crankcase.

You're nuts to keep driving this thing! You know if it blows while you are driving it, you'll probably catch the blame for it!

Yeah, I was going to tell her to call them and make sure that they knew it was ticking and everything. We cranked it up in front of them, and they didn't say anything about it. It is her dad's g/f's car, btw. Well, it's not just a tick, it's a complete sewing machine loud [censored] chatter.

I want to help them make it better, but I don't know what to do that is cheap and easy. Seafoam or AutoRX is all I know. And, to be honest, they probably wouldn't go for AutoRX, even though it'd be the best way for it. OH yeah, it has horrible blow by. I mean, the worst I've ever felt. Like a blown headgasket, without the blown headgasket.
