You might be surprised.I wonder what BMW's goal might be here?
Merely taking higher end EV sales away from other makers is probably a significant part of it.
BMW is an aspirational brand in a way that Tesla simply isn't.
I hope this car proves to be as good as it seems and does well.
BMW does have a lot riding on this.
7.5%? OMG, the sky is falling! You might be surprised.
Many Tesla sales are BMW owners who switched to Tesla, driven by advanced electric vehicle technology, among other things.
Industry data shows a steady percentage of luxury vehicle households—including roughly 7.5% of BMW owners—migrating to Tesla brands.
I understand BITOG generally does not think well of Tesla as a car company, but these cars are amazing. Ask an owner, and ask them what they had before.
That's your opinion, which you are welcome to.7.5%? OMG, the sky is falling!
I know that owners like their Teslas and I'm seriously thinking about one.
Until you've owned and driven a stick BMW, your really don't have a good frame of reference.
No Tesla nor Japanese car compares for the sheer joy of driving one.
7.5% is really not a flex. You might be surprised.

True but Tesla owners tend to be quite loyal. It takes a lot to make people switch7.5% is really not a flex.
That accounts for people who generally are not brand loyal.
7.5%? You always have 20-30% of customers that switch brands. And considering Tesla sales performance last two years, people are faster to drop it than other, more established brands.True but Tesla owners tend to be quite loyal. It takes a lot to make people switch
I don't know a single person who has traded a Tesla that didn't buy another, but obviously that's a small amount of people I know with Teslas.7.5%? I think, I THINK, that is not how statistics work.I don't know a single person who has traded a Tesla that didn't buy another, but obviously that's a small amount of people I know with Teslas.
Right. I'm just saying I haven't talked to the people who have made the switch. I'd love to. I'd like to hear the why.I think, I THINK, that is not how statistics work.
So far this year the numbers are shifting. According to companies that track trade-ins like Edmunds eTesla owners are trading in for Toyota hybrids and not for another ev. BMW has sold 50k IX3's and has had roughly double that in additional orders. Tesla owners trading in for Toyota hybridsYou might be surprised.

Idk, political issues, same old design, not anymore having best EV technology, and, as I said few years back, “good ole boys,” who actually make cars not iPads.Right. I'm just saying I haven't talked to the people who have made the switch. I'd love to. I'd like to hear the why.
I would never buy another brand than Tesla right now. When someone has something that has an interface that doesn't require CarPlay or Android Auto to not suck and has something equivalent to FSD(no one does) then I would consider it.Edmunds has tracked a large percentage of Tesla owners trading in for Toyota hybrids.
"
Jessica Caldwell, head of insights at Edmunds, said, "Toyota is the clear top beneficiary here when we look at Tesla trade-ins to dealerships, with hybrids emerging as the fastest-growing category among Tesla defectors."
Former Tesla owners are also much less likely than before to replace their cars with another EV."
Mercedes has better FSD.I would never buy another brand than Tesla right now. When someone has something that has an interface that doesn't require CarPlay or Android Auto to not suck and has something equivalent to FSD(no one does) then I would consider it.
Honestly I'd be fine with Android Auto if someone else gets the rest right, but even referencing GM's Supercruise or Ford's Blue Cruise, they are basically only highway only use. I can't imagine driving a Tesla, actually using these features, and going back to commuting in an ox cart. In addition to that I'd be happy to never pump gas again. I used to pump gas twice a week and I haven't done that in two years and nine months now.
The political issues one is the dumbest one. It's not even worth mentioning, but you're right that many will cite that as their reason. I won't even get into that one, but throwing out the rest of how good the car is over some feelings is just wild to me.Idk, political issues, same old design, not anymore having best EV technology, and, as I said few years back, “good ole boys,” who actually make cars not iPads.
So it will drive me from my driveway to the parking lot at the store and pick the parking spot without a single input from me?Mercedes has better FSD.
Cult is strange thing. So it will drive me from my driveway to the parking lot at the store and pick the parking spot without a single input from me?
Yeah, no it doesn't.
