Schaeffer is dyed green from the factory, and by the time the green is cooked out it has turned darker.I've recently taken a greater hand in maintaining sweetie's Prius. The oil that we put in at the last change (SuperTech 5W-30 Full Synthetic) is, fine for the situation. However, at least in the Prius, it is so clear that literally cannot read the dipstick. I'd like to find a good syn, 5w-30, that has a bit more color to it. The M1 that I run in the Camry seems to be a little darker, but I'd like some suggestions on what else might work.
How long does the purple dye persist in use?
Add some V8. Add A V8Maybe add some tomato juice? That'll taste YUMMY too. But YMMV.
Thanks. I was thinking about something similar, so I'm pleased to know what you did and how it worked out.my old mitsubishi had a black coated metal dipstick. I had trouble reading it so I took some sandpaper to it and sanded off the black coating where its supposed to read. Read much easier and never rusted.![]()
I've already looked into that. This stuff smells great!Next week with Shel_B "I was changing the oil on the Ford Ranger I just bought. The Mobil 1 absolutely stinks and I want a better smelling oil".
Thanks for the suggestion. Is all Schaeffer dyed green?Schaeffer is dyed green from the factory, and by the time the green is cooked out it has turned darker.
Plus it's very good oil.
Good idea...my MB has a black coating and can't see squat on it. Will at least do one side and see if that helps.my old mitsubishi had a black coated metal dipstick. I have a 1/2 quart of Edge handy. I'll take a look at it. Thanks for jumping in.Castrol Edge seems pretty dark out of the bottle.
I don't use additives, but thanks for the suggestion.Put some Mos2 in it.
