I cannot speak for Amsoil but I'm pretty sure you would never get that kind of response from Shell/Pennzoil. As a matter of fact, I would almost bet a pension check on it.

I am certain about that Johnny! Just seeing all the time you spend on this board shows you had/have a passion for what you do. That speaks volumes for you and any company that employed you!

I guess you've read through the M1 Vs Valvoline posts.

I have read them indeed, Frank D. I then held my head in my hands and just thought "Ok ok, these guys are Bilderberg conspiracy guys, they're just 'hatin' on the big dog"... (Sorry Guys) but, My vehicle is very very -very- near and dear to me; we can't do anything without a reliable vehicle in non-urban areas anymore. The h#ll with all that... THEY DON'T MEET THE SPECS!!! Man and to think I bought those green cap Jugs with abandon.

BITOG Rules.
God Bless America.

I sure as heck, hope I agree with both of you. Can't wait to try it out when my buddy's wifes at work and I have the garage to my self.

Well, I guess I'll be the lone wolf here in thinking that you're making a move backwards here. With the harsh winters you can have and just overall low temps, just why would you go from a Sythetic oil to a conventional oil??? Any syn will work better at the temp extremes, hot or cold. I want my oil circulating in my engine asap. I'm not concerned here about the brands, I do like and use Mobil 1 and YB is a good conventional oil. I'd rather see you keep with the syn oil - even Penn's own Platinum, which is well respected here and value priced quite often. Just for the record, I've used nothing but Mobil 1 in my 2 Jeeps. 5w30 winters and 10w30 summers, like another poster does. One jeep is a 4.0 and one is a 258.

One more thing - I agree with the other poster about refraining from using any 20wt oils in that Jeep. These 4.0L's prefer thicker oils. Plus, it's the newer engines from other makers that are calling for 20Wts, not Jeeps.

For my truck, YB wasn't performing as well as I would have hoped.

I had 5w30 Pennzoil Conventional in my 2002 4.0L V6 Explorer for ~1500 miles which had 62,000 miles. While the wear metals was a bit higher than the "universal" averages, the TBN of the YB was down to 2.7 after this short run. There is no way the YB would make it to the 5,000 mile Ford recommended OCI. Here is the UOA.

So my experience with Pennzoil Conventional was merely OK rather than good or great. I now have AMSOIL Signature Series 0w30 in the truck with Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 as a second choice should I decide to switch from Amsoil.

Hey GM Boy. Ok I feel the same way about going to a dino, and I'll take your word on using a 5-30. In my anti-Mobil 1 stage, I'll go with Pennzoil Platinum, (where's that WallyWord reciept...) but since we're at it, & you have 2 Jeeps your self, what would you say about me going to a 0-30, or 0-40 synth.? I want that 0 EVERYWHERE ASAP too.

(JEEP Wave)

I follow Johhny's recommendations.

I run YB conventional in the summer, and Platinum in the winter.
6 month intervals, roughly 5,000 miles per interval.

Our winters are freaking cold, and I like the way my car starts with synthetics.

Sorry to let yous guys down... but I'm 2nd guessing my choice, with that Mobil 1 0w30 (Advanced Fuel Economy) at Walmart for $16 after my $10 Mobil 1 rebate... GM Boy's right, why go Dino after using synth; especially when freezing weather's headed in. Man I need some here fella's. Please. Why cant I find that dang receipt!! ;-(

I think that Mobli 1 $10 rebate deal starts April 1, 2009, double check to be sure.

Frank D, Demar: Thanks. Pennzoil it is...

No problem, you'll be happy. I'm running the Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in my E-150 after almost 20 of Mobil 1.

ooh ooh, Frank D; Should I keep with the YB and the Mopar or Fram filter, or should I trade it in for a jug of Pennzoil Platinum 0w40 and pay the $3-$5??

You could poo in the valve cover and your 4.0L would run fine. Dino, syn, it doesn't matter much with a 2.5L/258/4.0L engine. Some of the best used oil analysis I've seen are on dino. I wouldn't run a 20 weight if your Jeep sees any decent trail time, but in a daily driver it would probably be fine in winter. In spring/summer/fall, I use SAE30, 10W40, or 15W40. It's all good.

Thanks Man, 40 in the summer sounds great.

PS:

1) Is Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy any good?
2) Is it tainted like the typical Mobil 1 5w30?
3) Would it work for my application?
4) Can oil be too thin (ie, 5-30 in a Wrangler requiring 5-40)?
