I think I am done with dealer oil changes

You probably have a mix of bulk and your oil in there now. I doubt the dealer changed the oil filter twice. Meaningless either way IMO, but I honestly would never carry in my own oil to a dealer service dept. Let them use their resources, materials and procedures. That's what you are paying for.

This is why I go to my local Motor Craft Quick Lane during a weekday when they open at 0730Hrs I the morning. LOL I'm usually the first customer & nobody is there yet. They only have me to concentrate on! LOL

A good dealer that accepts the appointment needs to keep it above those who just are walk ins.

The only time I'd carry in my own oil & filter is with my indy. I know and trust him well enough to actually use the materials I provided and not gouge me on labor for putting the car up on the rack. Bonus: He also lets me watch.

Relying on dealerships and chain shops to actually do the job right is always a [censored] shoot. Sounds like you got a nice engine flush, though.

Dealerships and chain shops....not so sure.
+1 I've done this as well with my mechanic buddy. At least I know if I happen to break my leg or something and can't change my own oil if it's due, he can do it and I don't have to worry if I've been screwed over. Heck, he'd probably do a better job than me lol. I can't trust the dealer for oil changes because they use 5w30 only (admittedly) and my car uses 5w40 oil.

If they did use the dealer's bulk oil the first time the smart thing to do would have been to tell you of the mistake and offer you the option of a free oil change and leave as is or waste the oil already put in and replace it with yours.

That thought crossed my mind also.

I absolutely hate rotating tires that that is why I took it in. Since it was on the lift it made sense to have the oil done at the same time also.

I may just do the o/c myself in the future but still have them rotate the tires.

It sounds like the dealership was honest enough to fix their mistake, however, the DIY option is something to consider for next time. Had you DIY'd, 30 minutes tops and the pride knowing it was done right.

The only way I'd supply my own oil is if I was able to watch them open it and pour it in the engine.

Then again, the only wait I'd have someone else do it is if I was physically disabled/ ill or lived in an apartment where auto DIY work wasn't allowed. (It could very well happen to me and I dread just thinking about it.)

I could do O/c and rotation at home in less than 2 hours. Disposing of the oil is the main trick, a good oil pan makes it easier. I guess different vehicles present different issues as with the filter but I agree I wouldn't take a jug of oil to an oil change place and necessarily expect it done unless I saw it with my own two eyes.

Rotating tires is good exercise and you see the parts of your car you don't see that often.

Some quick lube places have a watching room so you can see the work being done. That might be better than a dealer.

I live in apartment now where auto work is out per the lease but maybe winked at a little by the local super. Oil changes can be messy so some places probably draw hard line there. I don't want to get halfway into something and then get into trouble. Might have to have it towed or something.

10-15 minutes check leaks

I agree. This is probably the best solution from the dealer, and I would accept paying for labor but with free oil(even if it was dino). I then will do another oil change in 3-4k miles with the oil I like.

Was it a huge deal? No. Should it have happened? Absolutely not. It is about the simplest of automotive work that the dealership does and they wen have the advisor there to make sure it's done right. It's kinda on the unexcusable part of the spectrum. Nonetheless they do admit to it...in a way.

Sum total, not a confidence builder. I mean what can they say? "Hey sorry for the mistake um he's bad with the small stuff but he's really good with your ABS work."
