I saw two gangs of about 25 elk each. Whenever I go there, there are elk always right there next to the road. If I don't see one right away, I just wait a little until suddenly antlers appear from behind the top of a hill. It's very amusing. Black, pebbly, fist-size Elk droppings are everywhere and stepping in those isn't fun. Sometimes a young male will approach and stare intently for a few minutes from about 60 feet away. Their bodies are very pale, almost white, with a dark brown chest and head. The bulls have very bushy neck manes, or rather beards.
