I Was seeking new motoroil for my Skoda Octavia 2004 1,8t turbo 150bhp. In Castrol webpage one of the recommendations was Castrol Edge 0W-40W, so i put it in. Afterwards i noticed, that that this oil meets the VW 503 01-Standards and it should have meet VW 503 00-standards. The additives in these classes are basically the same. VW 503 01 is meant for the plus 180bhp-engines. Should i change this oil into an VW 503 00-oil? Could driving with this "wrong" oil damage my motor?

Maybe we are relatives, who knows? The warranty is not the issue in this car any more, because of its age. In Finland our cars are older thhan there unfortunately. BTW, Do you you remember the lasnames of your grandfathers?

2004 seems like a new car to me.

You will be fine! The 503.01 spec is for the higher HP VW/Audi engines, along with the W8 Passat. You will cause no harm, as most 503.01 oils also meet the 502.00 spec. However, few 502.00 approved oils meet the 503.01 spec. Here in the USA my favorites are German Castrol 0w30 and the Mobil 1 0w-40.

+1

I would expect the higher spec oil to be backward spec'd compatible, unless I'm missing something? Nothing to worry about.
