after 3 years of not using it. And I did a very bad thing. When I put it away I filled the tank with gas. Who does that?

Anyway, I drained the tank, put in a new spark plug, changed the oil and... nothing.

So I took the carb off and the gas in there smelled like a diesel mechanics dirty socks, it was really fowl. The inside was all tarnished.
It's a craftsman 1997 4 hp edger. 2 cycle. I doubt I have more than 25 hrs on it.

My observation is there is nothing to disassemble on this carb. Will shooting carb cleaner in there and all around be enough to clean this carb? Should I soak it in a pan of Carb cleaner?

Spray some fuel in the carb to get it running. If it wont stay running, get a carb kit for it. ($10)

Did you store it with E10 in it? Thats very bad stuff!

Try spraying a little carb cleaner into the air intake to act as starting fluid. See if it will run from that, and if so, then try to go from there.

Yup, stored it with e-10. That stuff is aweful. I usually drain but, I got lazy.

I have a carb kit on the way because none of those other solutions worked. should be here thursday or friday. I'll post results.

here is something to consider... TruFuel

I have been running in a Husqvarna backback blower, a stihl chainsaw, and a husq weedeater.

NO MORE cursing and no more HEADACHES over ethanol in the stinking gas.

It comes premixed with 92octane (no ethanol, of course), synthetic oil, and can last up to 2 years in the can.

I was sold on the stuff due its easy to pour into the small tanks on the stuff I mentioned above and not having all the other "bad" instances that just happen if I don't bother to think. For instance, not putting something like StarTron ethanol treatment or the Marine formula Stabil, not wanting to pay what the cost of 93octane is, and/or everything in between.......

I love not having any problems with those small engines.

Oh yeah, they sell it as trufuel50 for 50:1 and trufuel40 for 40:1

trufuel50.com

Clean jet with carb cleaner and a twist tie (garbage bag) or equivalent to get the jet up clogged. Lots of times I can do this on the machine itself, not mine as I either drain completely or use Stabil.

Plus one on the trufuel, stihl also has a product called motomix which is their ultra oil in 92 octane at 50:1.

This is in contrast to the Echo Blower that started and ran fine albeit it bogged like he[[ for a bit after warming up. Gas must be no less than 1 1/2 years old but I did put Iso-heet in it that I know.

I've looked at those fuel cans, considering my limited use of the chainsaw & blower since the weed smacker is a 4 cycle. It might be a good idea.

Thermo, Where in Easton did you look at the premix fuel?

Stihls website says Cantelmi's in Easton should have them, I'm going to check them out later.

Make sure the fuel lines are there and not hardened or chewed by a mouse. There are 3 in my Sears weed whacker. The filter is hanging off a fuel hose in the fuel tank.
