Thanks Benjamming, I have been looking for a thorough explanation for how to properly repair paint chips for quite some time. Now to see if I have enough patience to follow these instructions!

A bodyman I used to work for years ago taught me a trick to apply touch-up paint flawlessly. Use a cardboard match stick. Tear one out of the pack, and use that end to apply the paint to the chip or scratch. It will "flow" right into the defect, and level out to a nearly perfect repair. If you wanted to get really nuts, you could let it cure completely, then block wetsand with 2000 or 2500 grit to level any high spots, then buff it back out to a high gloss.
Most the time I never have to do that...It usually turns out so nice you really have to look to see where you painted once it cures.

GT Mike, nice tip. I'll give that a shot. I had a detail job today and this chick's car has several touch up areas. I'll give the match stick a try and see how they turn out.

She had an Altima with oxidation. I went to use the Zaino AIO on it and it just soaked it up. I gave up quickly using the Zaino since it didn't have any oils or solvents and quickly went to another brand. She definitely needs a couple hours with the PC to get anything out of that oxidized paint. I did what I could and she got her money's worth but her paint is almost to the point of no return.

The Z-AIO was just getting eaten up. When I washed her car the first time, it didn't need to be dried. Her paint just drank all the water. ha ha
