I like it when Craigslist works as intended. I've been trying to sell some items on there for a while. Always it's been a spammer, a lowballer, or a Craigsflake who can't pick the items up for whatever reason. Tonight, the system worked as intended. A guy a few minutes away had seen my ad, responded using a grammatically and punctuation-correct email, and picked the item up at the agreed-upon time for my very reasonable asking price.

I wish every Craigslist transaction could go that smoothly!

You're right - Isn't that the rarity?

It seems the normal funtion of CL is to scare those people away.

Too many people use those hand held devices for texting and it's hard to make out what they are writing....with the "shortcut" words and Ebonics. They might think that it's COOL with the "made up words" and shortcuts.....but I find that jargon used in texting to be very annoying. I just don't respond to texts unless it's in English and makes sense.

craigslist work most of the time for me, the only time it doesn't work is if the seller or buyer thinks he/she knows it all and use ridiculous pricing on items that isn't worth it.

I've picked up and sold baby swing, nursing glider, crib, stroller, car seats, refrigerators, computer parts, furniture, car pool passengers, etc on it. The key is to use it only to find contacts then you have to email and call to see this person is legit and normal before meeting and do business with, just like on newspaper.

I use my magicjack phone number on craigslist ads, as I can "throw it away" if someone goes berzerk afterwards, it's an unlisted number, it's "here and now" if someone has money burning a hole in their pocket.

Someone responded to my ad with a SMS text. Unbelievably, magicjack translated it and had a robot read me the message, including vowel-less "txtspk". Despite the technological "save" this contact was still our last comminique.
