I jumped on the Pennzoil Platinum bandwagon...

Well, I finally decided to pick up some Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 since Pennzoil has $15 rebates on Platinum. $1 a quart and $3.67 for a Motorcraft filter is hard to beat. I finally decided to just extend my OCI and utilize a tried/true group III oil.

I have 5 rebates for Pennzoil, through family members. I plan on running ~6K and a pulling a UOA sample before changing it. I hope to be able to go 8K to 10K in my Taurus. It is super easy on oil. I did a UOA with PYB 5w20 and Blackstone said 5K on PYB would be easy for my car.

My only concern is the FL400S living through 8k to 10k miles.

If your engine is clean to start with you shouldn't have a problem with the filter. I've been doing 10,000 mile OCI for 31 years and have never had any filter problems to my knowledge.

Both cars should be fine with long of an OCI assuming you are using a quality filter, and reasonable driving habits/patterns.

Not to hijack, but how is everyone paying 1.00 a quart for PP after rebate? I only see it at AA for 4.99/qt?25-15=10/5=2

They are buying the 5 quart jugs of PP at WM for $20, minus the $15 rebate gets you 5 quarts of oil for $5.

If you have a Pep Boys nearby you can get that FL-400S for $3.49. Wouldn't be worth a separate trip but if you have to go there anyways...

i too am leaning towards jumping on with pp for my next change. i keep hearing good things about it. i just hope that the 109k mark is not too late to switch to syn?

No worries, it's never too late to switch. I use PP often as well.

I just got my $15 rebate check in the mail! I have been using PP for 3,000 miles so far and I like it. My truck starts up quickly and effortlessly in colder weather and runs smooth. Granted, it has not gotten super cold yet but I suspect it will do well then too as it suposably meets spec for a 0w-XX rating.

I plan on dumping this current fill at about 7,000 miles and then doing another 7,000 mile run before doing a UOA to see how it has held up. I don't want to pay for a UOA of PP after only one run in my truck. The tough part is waiting 14,000 miles to see how well it holds up.

Up here in Canada we used to get 5L for 21.97 at Walmart. They just jumped the price to 35.47 in a 2 week period. YIKES
