I got a new toy!

I got a summit racing oil filter cutter. I've been saving most the filters I've taken off vehicles for the past year or so. I was shocked to see the fram cardboard end caps looked fine. I didn't see any problem with the filter media or endcaps. This model was a ph5 I believe, but the antidrain back valve was worthless. Didn't seal at all. It didn't have a bypass.

Are most regular black rubber antidrain back valves this bad, or are other brands better?

I can't say "most" nitrile ADVBs are bad, but they certainly shouldn't be used for extended OCIs. 5,000 miles is considered about the limit.

I have an old PH5 kicking around. I keep debating on whether to use it or not.

I think I'm gonna get one of those... I used to use my Dremel but it takes forever and the cutting wheels are very expensive.

The tool is a lot quicker than a hack saw. I held the tool with my foot and used an oil filter wrench to turn the filter. A couple turns and you have a filter in 2 pieces.

I bought the same one a month or so ago; glad to hear it works well. Another 600 miles and I'll be posting pics of Subaru's old OEM filter, black tokyo roki : )
