The two front tires on my wife's Impala are Goodyears, and as she needs to get an eye exam, we are going to just replace the two on the back. The fronts have been on the car for just over a year and still have alot of tread, but the rears are OEM and thus are worn out.

I don't like to mix brands, so I'm going to see what can be had at the Goodyear dealers around here. IF we end up at Wmart, it would be at one about 20 odd miles away, as the local one screwed up both our cars in the past.

But I'll check the other dealers first.

If you don't like GoodYears you can probably get matching used tire from a salvage yard for cheap. This way when all 4 wear out you can change to the brand of your choice.

I just got a call from the distributor and Goodyear and they were very helpful.

I am not much of a race fan anymore so don't care if a product is a sponsor or not (I don't get paid millions to use a certain product, so the heck with it

), but if these Goodyears after we can get them prove themselves to be decent, I'll get them for my '00 cavalier also.

Sold and installed thousands of tires over the years. Long as they are radials, never had problems mixing brands as long as both front are the same and both rear are the same.

What would you prefer?

Actually, you could say my problem stems from a hand me down car that was never taken care of. Including the tires. I remember the tires being replaced when I was 11, and the car still had them on it when I started driving at 17. They were Goodyears, and needless to say they were at the wear bars. So I guess my prejudice is not justified since the car was never taken care of properly.

I'll try the Goodyears and just maybe get them for the other car also.

For most daily driver cars, just look at the tire warranty, then take a look at some reviews for that tire online.

If your comfortable with the warranty, and the reviews are OK, then buy away.

I buy the cheapest tire that meets those criteria for daily driver cars.

A fwd impala for your wife doesn't need any special tires, like a sports car would.

Buy whats cheap.

If you have a discount tire near you, they offer the best deals in the nation from what i've seen.

You can order tires from them and have them shipped to your house, and lug them to walmart and have them installed, and still save money.

But if your on the hunt for cheap tires, and are in a hurry, you can buy tires from walmart and have them installed there.

I was not a Goodyear fan, but for this combination it has worked well for me. My 2 2005 work vehicle Explorers came with Michelin Cross Terrain's...nice tires. When they were needed to be replaced at approximate 60,000 miles I found on eBay some new Goodyear Integrity "take offs" for under $200 per set (local pick up). These tires came stock on new Honda Pilots so I figured they would be fine...especially for the price. Reviews were not so hot on the line overall, but much was in weather that where I live would not experience. I also read some reviews that stated the tires on the Pilot were made in Canada and were much better that the US version. Don't know if that is true..but let me tell you that the Goodyear's turned the Explorers into different vehicles. They are noticeably smoother and quieter than the Michelins. Cornering is A ok. I do give the nod to Michelin above 90 but not by much. I even bought more and have them stashed in the garage for future use. Mileage so far seems good. Overall VERY HAPPY!

I'm replacing my Impalas Badyears with 4 Kumho 795's. You can get a set for the price of two Badyear GA's. You can have my old GA's if you want to pick them up.

Thanks, but that is what is on the Impala's rear axle at the moment.

Quoted us $232 for two Integrities. It's a regular tire dealer, and his price is what the other goodyear dealers are saying, as well. I'm going to just go ahead with this dealer.

tenderloin,

you have two choices for tires for your Exploders: the Integritys or the Cross Terrains. You aren't allowed to switch after you buy them. Which ones?

I have the Integritys on my '05 Highlander as OEM tires and I've had to problems with them. Then again, your SUV and mine are built on a completely different chassis. Maybe the GY's do a better job of taming the "truck" ride?

tenderloin,

Never mind! I re-read your post and noted your "stash." I may have to re-think Cross Terraining the Highlander when the Integritys need replacing (which will be some time, with 18k on the odo).

dkryan, the Cross Terrains will transform your Highlander. They did mine. Quieter, smoother, better handling, and for this area, worlds better wet traction. Only thing that might compete would be some Yokahama Geolanders. A friend swears by them on his RX300. Both good. The Goodyears were an embarrassment.

troberts:

Thanks for the feedback. I must be getting old (as my niece reminds me each time I see her), as the Integritys have given me no problems in the 22 months we've had the Highlander.

In fact, the ride (both road noise and handling) seem just fine to be. A contrast to the Goodyear RSAs on my '01 Infiniti as OEM tires. I switched those to Bridgestone Turanzas at 30K miles, about 25k later than I should have.

Obviously, I have a few months to go before I'll need new tires. Who knows what will be available then?

Pep Boys had given us a price of $283 for two Regatta 2's including the alignment.

The other dealers did not even mention the car needing an alignment after new tires installed. I think I'll be getting them there, as it does wander a bit.

What came up was a rather acceptable deal from the nearer Goodyear dealer, and though nothing against Pep Boys (I'll still buy stuff there when we go down for a ball game) I think it's easier to drive 14 miles than 40 miles for a repair if need be (I hope not). The Integreties are pretty decent tires in the rain I found out today.

Here in NE Ohio we got hit again while Cleve and west of it got zilch basically. Anyway, the Integrities did rather well, certainly better than the worn out Goodyears that we had on it since we got the car.
