bought some 22s and new A/T tires

i loved my AT II’s in the snow/ocean of colorado. truck felt like it was on rails while all the passenger cars were sliding around.
Most A/T tires are OK moving forward. The problem is, they suck stopping compared to snow-all-weather tires. And that is the game.

Never had Toyos before. This made me a believer in the Open Country’s. I think since there’s adequate tread block spacing the tire can evacuate loose snow effectively. I do not get thrown around in the mealy greasy snow anymore like I did with the Goodyears— again those were kinda closed pattern.
They can evacuate slush etc. better. But that is pretty much all the advantage they have.

These have some decent siping and have been doing pretty good stopping on the ice/snow packed covered roads.

the ATII’s had no issues stopping my 8600lb truck in colorado winters. the toyo ATIII’s are 3 peak rated now so i’m sure they’re even better.

Summer tires also stop in the snow, eventually. That is a subjective opinion. Objective measurements put them far behind anything designed for snow.
8600lbs trucks are all over ditches by I70, for a reason.

agree to disagree👍🏽

you never drove my pickup with a set of ATII’s on it so you’re very unqualified to say my opinion of tires is in correct.

the OP has stated the ATIII’s are out performing his old tires in snow, a positive to him.

i came from BFG KO2’s to the toyo ATII’s and it was a night and day difference when i did it.

I had K02s on an F150 and I’ll also second these are a lot better than them.

I don’t know where this poor performing/unsafe with an A/T narrative is coming from. The observation of trucks in ditches is pointless unless we’re specifying the tread measurement, make/model of tire and skill level of every aforementioned driver. There’s plenty of A/Ts that carry no 3PMSF rating that are sold to the truck fellas. So it’s tough to quantify the capability level with a blanket statement.

The same can be said for snow tires. Ice traction with a Firestone Winterforce vs a Bridgestone Blizzak. Who’s gonna be better? Any tire category can have winners who succeed in different categories.

Is me having a 22” rim thru winter with a top performing, class leading A/T, that numerous tire retailers/reviewers and thousands of data points on really that polarizing?

I’m just very happy with my purchase and the looks and wanted to share my results.

Ah OK, I did not know you had special vehicle.

Looks great! I've had 3 sets of the Toyo Open Country ATIIIs. Awesome in the snow. Great off road too and stay very quiet. Only downside is they don't make a 35 for an 18 inch rim in a SL load rating, so I'll have to go back to Nittos for the Wrangler on the next set. Will miss the Toyos for sure!

I think the toxic narrative is a product of jealousy. Just ignore it.

I have the older AT IIs in 285/75/18 on my 2500. They aren’t the best winter tires I’ve ever owned, but I like them for long trips across the Canadian prairies.
I also put them on my daughter’s 2014 Escape (sold) in 235/65/17 and they worked ok.
The new AT IIIs are available in 150 sizes or more and now have the snow flake symbol.

There’s a new size out in the AT3 EV offering I might try next; 285/70/20.

What would I have done differently than you? Gone with the 285/50/22s because I have to bro-truck everything I own.
