I don't 'get' the moderation on this board....

I agree - reporting a thread never even occurred.

Yeah I'm inclined to agree too. It's never occurred to me. In fact, once I clicked the Notify link at the bottom of a thread thinking it was the "watched topics" feature and was surprised to find it was a "notify mods" link instead.

Of course people have every right to be offended by things and to report them to the mods. But getting offended by something on a message board and wanting it taken down just seems.. I don't know, asinine to me (to risk using slightly too harsh a word).

That's why I said I think the policies are misguided (but not stupid). It just doesn't strike me as necessary on a web forum. There are two angles here: "family friendly" and "unoffensive". To the latter, I think it's a valuable skill to be able to be unoffended by the arbitrary opinions people post on the web. To the former, I try not to let my age seep out in my posts but I was exposed to the internet quite a bit before I was a "mature" adult (hah!). Some stuff is not family friendly. I personally don't think that being exposed to "non-family-friendly" content is damaging. I'm not talking about seriously depraved stuff of course and obviously the line has to be drawn somewhere, based on someone's opinions.

For my part though, the extremely high quality of the membership-base and discussions on this site are what keeps me coming back despite the policies.

I should really go find something useful to do and stop rambling here...

:) :)

It's alive and well. I didn't think about it until someone kept mentioning it. I reset my preferences ...and there it is.

I'll probably ditch it again at some point.

I must surmise that 50% of members are prissy little girls.

Helen?

Isn't "Bob" the owner/person who runs it?

Where has "Bob" been and why doesn't he post...?

Real slow learner.

Judging from the shout box, Helen may get a PM asking for a date.

I know, I know, if I don't like the moderation, leave the board. I don't have a problem w/the board moderation - in fact, I think they do an EXCELLENT job of making this one of the most civilized board on the web. I really do. Just sometimes, the moderation seems a bit knee-jerk, without giving a topic 'a chance'...

Just an observation!

The rule is NO political stuff, light or otherwise. Sometimes the line is fuzzy....so what? That's not going to change....we want to talk about oil and lots of oil is controlled by sweaty armholes who need to be talked about. Just stay away from current political events/elections and swerve to the techie/oily side and you should be fine. The Paris Hilton thing, well that violated poli, then sex and nearly became religious (for me)…...

I have indeed been a big time abuser of the rules in the past and will readily admit it, unlike some of the guys here who say they are pure as the driven snow. Then they claim there are too many girlie men here and don't turn people in because they are real men, or that the right gets a pass and the left doesn't. I find that pretty hilarious. These same folks just do a mighty fancy (better?) word dance……not necessarily to overtly get around (can I say that?) the rules but to espouse their leanings. Then they complain the mods are biased! Oh well, it's entertaining that's for sure.

I have indeed reported posts - for Amsoil related stuff.

It's been my experience, if you get busy and have a life it cuts down dramatically on the poli/sex/godot posts.

Don't post something like this: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aFV6lXqZMJhs&refer=home

This is OK: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aPPh13pKokQA

Quick history for you tpitcher:

Bob started this and was the original owner. Bob had a stroke and Tony (Helen's husband) bought the site from Bob but kept the name. Tony passed away last year and Helen is now the owner of BITOG. The original Bob does post from time to time.

Well, thank you for the thoughtfully nice response!

I don't live here (like Mori...) and have not looked up the history, if it's even here.

Again, grow up and be a real man and abide by the rules. Or act like a defiant juvenile (crybaby) and continue to post RSP.

The choice is yours.

Be a real man and tell everyone else to abide by the rules.

The only time you post on a car forum is to call someone a crybaby and tell them to be a real man?

Or Hall Monitor wannabes.

Exactly. I've never reported a thread because it's like Cartman - Dog the hall monitor.

Exactly what I'm talking about Pabst. You more than once refereed to a certain person as "Hope", taken your dig, and it wasn't deleted.

You think it's entertaining because you're on the right side.

Would you like me to point you in the direction of a thread where you mentioned his name about 5 times with subsequent political ranting? :edit: I can't do that because Buster would be equally culpable. Along with a dozen others...

Since I'm the referee and all.

A good standard would be if a post offended someone, then report it. As much as I appreciate and respect the mod standards here, I don't think very many people would be outright offended by locker-room or shop-talk.
