Done Katahdin myself, probably 1980.

Took a trip to Chesuncook Lake and canoe sailed the entire length.

Trip of memories that last a lifetime. (see)

The Abol waterslide is particularly fun.

It looks the same today. Very difficult climb.

I did it in 2004, I think, going the other way: up Helon Taylor to Pamola, across Knife Edge then down. 2nd attempt; got rained out the first time I tried it a couple of years prior to that. What a fantastic, awesome, mountain! The Maine woods are epic.

Hillclimber, I hiked into Chimney Pond then up to Baxter Peak via the Saddle trail. Quite long and strenuous. Across the Knife Edge to Pamola,
and back to Roaring Brook. That 3 miles down Pamola pretty much finished off my Knees. Total hike was 10 miles.

I want to do that! That view is great!! Will be 59 this year, but sounds like a good challenge. Did similar hikes here this last summer and fall. I hiked Mount Whitney (Elevation: 14,505 feet) 3 times in the 1970's and early 1980's

.........but er.....was I was more "spry" then. Getting to Maine could be more of a (time) challenge.

From start to finish. At least it was for me. Supposed to be the hardest climb east of the Mississippi River.

Yeah, I got rained off the Saddle Trail on my first Katahdin attempt. I do believe hiking down from Pamola killed the knees; hiking up Keep Ridge was pretty brutal; no switchbacks, straight up, humid day, lots of blackflies.

The view from Knife Edge down to Chimney Pond is worth it.
