Gas is getting ridiculously high to fill my e39 530i up even with 89 octane. It’s time to put some miles on old reliable!

Fresh summer fill for my e28 5 series. Penz 20w50 SN rated dates may 2014. Mahle Filter.
Last few fills have been Rotella and Delvac 15w40. I forgot how slow 20w50 pours out the bottle.

Curious as to why you guys run such heavy oil in them? I've been a VW and general German car guy for a very long time. Not much experience with BMWs though just VW/Audi/Porsche, and MB mostly.

All had reduculously high oil pressures with my old go to Rotella T6 5-40.

From the owners manual. Went by temperature. I live in central Louisiana and it never gets much colder than 25f in winter so 20w50, 15w40, or 10w40 with a good add pack works just fine year round.

My crown vic and gmc sierra take 20w50 castrol and they love it especially in summer heat at 45C
The difference in oil temp on my truck between winter and summer is like 5 degrees. Both of your vehicles and my vehicle have water cooled oil coolers. They hang out around thermostat temp.

Do you think that living in Bremerton , WA may have something to do with that? How many time have you seen sub zero temps in rainy Western Washington?

True but most cars don’t have oil coolers .
My gmc does have an oem oil cooler, but I noticed oil pressure drops slightly after off roading or high speeds like 110 mph .
even with 5w30 let alone 20w50 .
Thick oil keeps the oil pressure where i like it.
Doesn’t get below 50f so why not
My vic is not CVPI it doesn’t have an oil cooler

When I was just a young lad, and had mine, I did the dabble with Castrol Syntec 5W-50. Because.. Cold starts!!!!!

I tried a wide myriad of oils, and honestly believed I was doing something better with $12 a quart 5W-50.. tried 5W-40, 10W-40, 20W-50, never tried the monogrades... The engine honestly ran the same on all of them. Long hot summer road trips.

Not sure I ever went to 5W-30, a for that engine car, E30M20B27.
