Ran into this on my daughter's 11 Sonata. Had it towed in on a Sunday, didn't get a loaner until Thursday when they looked at it. In my case it didn't ventilate the block, and while it was still a fairly easy diagnosis for me, they have to make it official. Also, at least in my case, our local Hyundai dealer is absolutely slammed all the time, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt as far as checking it out since I kind of dumped it in their laps when their schedule was already booked out.

When you get your new theta-2 engines, go thick with the oil.

I used mostly 5w-40 or 0w-40 in the summers. Sometimes 0w-30 in winter. It's had 2 transmission flush and fills. Dual catch cans.Pcv changed twice. All the maintenance in the world didn't stop It's failure.

Skip 'mostly' with always. Monitor oil for fuel since most run the oil too long and load it with fuel.
Catch cans are useless. Better off with spray cleaners for intake valve deposits with a regular 6-month or yearly interval.
I wouldn't bother with 0w40 or 0w30 with the 2.0T, or LSPI oils, or lower SAPs oils, or nontoptier fuel, or regular grade fuel, or OE filters, or dry installed oil filters, or dealer service, or hack service

It's had 93 octane no ethanol and a bottle of techron or sl-1 every oil change. 4 times spray clean in intake. Significant amounts of catch can drainage on one catch can, negligible on the other.

Said 2 or 3 weeks usually and a whole engine maybe new or remanufactured. Enterprise rental 50$ upfront and 3$ day. Utter nonsense , was supposed to be all covered.
And no warranty on replacement engine, just the same settlement process.

Some sort of a down payment, maybe refundable. What free engine ,lol.? Already missed 2 days of work, two tows just under $500. My last 4 banger, a Mazda b2000 lasted 314,000 miles. I traded it running and driving, albeit drinking a qt of motor oil a fillup. A volkswagen bug lasted 278,000. Still running when my sister totalled it. 2 buick 350s over 200,000. Both running fine when sold. And to be clear, Hma could still screw me over. They only have applied for a newish motor.

After submitting to Hyundai, it only took the dealer 1 day to get a prior approval on several engines that I assisted the owners with. It took a week or so for the engines to show up. And then, you'll have to wait for a tech appointment for the replacement as the tech could be booked a week or a month in advance depending on how busy the dealership is. Because of the high turnover of employees, some dealerships just can't get their act together moving the paperwork and replacement along at a reasonable pace.
I'm close to 3 stealerships. One said no plans to accept new engine replacement as they had no scheduled engines to replace [one i bought it from] they pushed a not necessary brake job on a warranty visit. Other said maybe sometime in February. No experience there. Worst one is where hma said take it here. You do realize, nick, that they still won't acknowledge any wrong doing after settling out of court after a class action lawsuit and a nhtsb finding. This has been going on for a decade. They all blow up. It's just a matter of when. The Korean fbi even raided their offices over this.
