What is EG coolant?

I am interested in this though as I have a Kia and it also recommends plain green ethylene glycol antifreeze. I'm thinking of going with G05 at the 60K maintenance, cause everyone on BITOG says it's the best

if its still under warantee get the coolant from the dealer just in case

Since you are still under warranty I would pick up a jug of the long life green from the dealer. From the limited info I can gather it is a POAT and similar to Japanese coolants. I would not mix them. Zerex makes a similar product but it's pink and might effect your dye color. http://www.valvoline.com/products/brands/zerex/antifreeze/105

When does it say to replace the coolant in your owners manual?
Use Zerex Asian since it meets Hyundai/Kia MS-591-08.
If you're only a few ounces low, just top off with distilled water. Another option is just to toss in a bottle of coolant additive from Lubegard, Amsoil, Redline....

When Valvoline offers the Asian full strength instead of just 50/50, I will use it. I really don't understand their marketing strategy on this. They have developed, as far as I know, the only after-market coolant specifically for Asian vehicles, and have decided we consumers do not need or want it full strength.

All of the Asian manufacturers of coolants (Toyota, Nissan, etc) offer their products full strength. I can purchase distilled water for less than $1 a gallon. I cannot flush my vehicle and use 50/50 unless I remove the freeze plugs. I think Valvoline is making a mistake in not offering a complete competing product line.
Toyota Pink SLL as far as I know comes pre diluted 50/50, they might make a concentrate in qt bottles but I am not aware of it. Please enlighten me.
What Zerex did with AVF is market it as a replacement for Toyota SLL and other type II Japnese coolants that basically only come premix for the 1 gal containers. Of course just as it is with the OE coolant, premix is not a good value and it makes AVF a not so great value too.
There is really no reason they had to make premix only. The first type Japanese phosphate coolant came in concentrate and American green used phophates and always came in concentrate too. Ford has speciality Green type II japanese coolant in concentrate. It probably works out to be the best deal.

The reason is that the typical consumer is incompetent and Valvoline has that 5y/150k usage guarantee.
So, premix eliminates the 'water quality variance'.
It also prevents someone from running 100% coolant, with no water!
2 gallons of Zerex premix is cheaper than 1 gallon of various OE coolants around here. Price isn't much of an issue and most Napa's carry it or can order it for you. I find it a great value when dealers want $25-$35 for a gallon of full strength, along with a run to the store for a gallon of distilled water. I get 2 gallons of Zerex Asian for $22.
Peak Global is available in full strength and 50:50. Good luck finding it but I've seen it at Sears/Kmart. Its another option if no Napa's around.

I don't think you're going to see both premixed and concentrated version of Zerex Asian Vehicle unless the current product gains a bigger market share. Even producing one version is a gamble, Prestone has a greater market share and they evidently have convinced most of North America that there is one antifreeze that is suitable for all cars.
My local NAPA has Zerex Asian Formula, Zerex G05 and Peak Global and many other formula that can not be found at other chains stores.

In colder parts of Canada (perhaps all of Canada), it comes 55% coolant pre-mixed. Barely gets -40 protection. I'd rather get to at least -45C, but this is better than nothing. Zerex Asian is otherwise attractive, but the 50/50 mix rating of only a -36C freeze rating is useless to me, so unless it's available full strength, I'll be stuck with Toyota SLL.

The other option is to use what is available locally and mix it to your 55-70% strength. You are never stuck with an OE coolant. But, you need to have the common sense to maintain what you choose with sensible intervals.
I'd go with a PG coolant, like Amsoil, Evans, Neo, Sierra, LowTox or other eco antifreeze.
