to soon to tell. Not that I'm anticipating feeling anything tangible from the switch. Its more of a peace-of-mind thing. Knowing that a very stout, highly certified oil is being used. At 4800 mile oci, I wont even pay for a uoa because if this oil isnt up to the task, nothing is.

From MyHyundai maintenance page:

*Please note: The odometer information you provide will determine when the next Maintenance Alert will be sent to your vehicle.

MY DRIVING CONDITIONS

If any of the first five options is selected, then oil changes are recommended at every 3,000 miles. If the "none of the above" option is selected, then oil changes are recommended at every 4,800 miles. See owner's manual for exceptions.

Sorry about the link complication. I too don't get this very minuscule change.

So the oil is done before 5K but it's fine up to 4.8K?
This seems silly at best.

Just a guess, but this might be a conversion issue, from the metric. Maybe the standard is 8,000 km. An exact conversion is 4,970.97 miles. That's close enough to 5,000 that it's good enough for rounding purposes---but an easy imprecise conversion shorthand is km X .6= miles. That would make it 4,800.

Maybe.

That's ridiculous, 4800 miles? Stupid...

My wife drives a 2011 Santa Fe with the V6 and we use a syn oil and use 5K oci's... Not sure I will buy another Hyundai because I think by Hyundai, lowering the OCIs, is getting a little anal. I bet they are worried about the 100K warranty and are going to get touchy about service records.

+1 to me I can imagine bunch of people not noticing or adhering to the 200mi oci drop, then if have issue before 100k from fuel dilution or something else, getting flack from Hyundai for not following maintenance requirements.
I see this as a way to deny people on service claims from improper maintenance. JMO

Only see it in my MyHyundai acct. No letter or email from them. Dealership says as far as they know, its still 5k. I also wouldn't let this discourage my purchase of another Hyundai. The car has been excellent as has been the Service department. No complaints from me.

Sounds like a metric conversion issue. Are there other examples at myHyundai? Technically, the 100,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty should be 62,137 miles, not a mere 60K miles, for instance. I am guessing that site just uses the shorthand of "multiply by .6" to convert km to miles. Same principle as speed limit signs in Canada: 100 kmph or 60 mph---not 62.1 mph.

I would change oil at 4,800 just to be extra-safe as to warranty, but I don't think an OCI of 5,002 miles would void anything. Of course I am not a lawyer.
