I applaud your efforts in coasting whenever possible, as you can see it makes a difference in the MPG's. Your brakes will last longer as well.

Yes. PM Yoshi at gassavers.org about a SuperMID.

Great, thankyou. I have been thinking for a long time about a MPG gauge to keep my hypermiling efforts focused.

I've been trying some of the driving techniques in the E30 this tank full, will see how it goes.

But yesterday I had to climb a really twisty mountain, and I was naughty...really naughty

My particular E30 is extremely sensitive to air density. At sea level I can barely eke out 25mpg while up here at 5850ft I average 30-32. I actually get my best mileages in mountain driving.

What variety of E30 is yours?

early 80s 323i, paid $1300 for it last September. It's got an open loop injection system, being from when Oz was leaded.

My W126 Mercedes, the big S-Class from the '80s with a 4.2 liter V-8, was just like that. At Denver's altitude of about 5200, I got 18.5-20 mpg on the average. Down in The Swamp (a lot of which is *below* sea level), my mileage dropped to 17.5-18.
