Taken from the photo above is my concern but I am not an alarmist, way to soon to know what I dont know ...

(my wife will be pissed that we didnt buy flood insurance*LOL*) Not required but we arent far away from the "zone" like around the corner almost.
Some areas don't look like they'll flood but.... I was told by a realtor to see if your house is In a flood plain.

Always check and always easy to check online. Actually it's the only way to know.
Keep in mind though, 20% of all flooding takes place in areas where flood insurance is not required because it is considered low risk. If you are in a high risk area you will not be able to get a mortgage without flood insurance. High risk is 1 in 4 chance of flooding over a 30 year period.

Las Vegas gets about 5" in a year. 30" at once is almost Biblical.
we get the same. 1inch in 24 hrs is a major storm here.

I hope all fare well.

The worst I experienced as a youngster was Agness in I think 71. It wreaked havoc in the Chesapeake Bay area and especially north of me. They set charges on one side of the Conowingo dam and were ready to blow out a relief if necessary. After it all they determined that the dam had moved ever so slightly from it. They then went about a one year project of reinforcing the dam to prevent that from happening again.

So as of 5AM Tuesday huge change in the forecast as far as I am concerned.
Downgrade in rain amount predictions for some areas GA and SC with a spike at the SC/NC border.
I’m getting bored, which is a good thing so far but still too soon to know. Except my area rain totals increased 🧐 but now doubt the forecast.

This feels like Matthew all over again. A lot of rain in the weeks prior and a stalled storm just going to dump on us.

It was rough here in Eastern NC. Flooding like I've never seen in Fayetteville and Lumberton. I-95 under water, Cape Fear River crested 60' in places.

You know, I am starting to think, if you compare the two maps I posted, To me it appears that the storm is not behaving like they expected.
Only time will tell but all of a sudden the most severe areas of rain have for lack of better words, dried up into something lessor.
True some of that last remaining dark band is near my area, it's starting to appear like it will move more inland. Anyway, it goes with the known knowledge that they really do not know these storms until they actually take place or within a 12 hour time frame ahead of time.
All of a sudden Savanna is in the clear and so is Charleston SC (lack of better words) of what originally was to be.

Anyway, in my mind (have NO CLUE) if I will be right and anything can change but right here on the coast near SC/NC Im starting to look at this as an intermittent, at times heavy, couple day rain event. Actually if it is heading in-land maybe it will be worse for those east, then right here on the ocean.

Ps. Dont think I am making light of the storm, Im just wondering here on the coastal NC/SC border area what will actually happen.
NOAA did issue an "extreme impact" for flooding rains starting tonight thru Thursday in this area and that is why I wonder. Seems like long enough time period for rain to fall and drain away than all at once event, UNLESS the places it drains too cant take any more water 😂

60 feet??!? That’s not a crest. I don’t know what that is besides crazy.

Be safe.

They use models. Those of us who use technical and physics based models often say, “all models are wrong, some are useful”.

That’s not to poke at the folks doing the work, it’s challenging, and there’s literally a world of other things going on that may affect the outcome.

I think it takes days sometimes for all the water to drain away, rivers to go up and down, etc. sometimes it’s affected by tides too.

Regardless, be safe!

I'm a bit north and west from you, but could see downed trees from all the rain. I have fresh genset fuel on hand.

We lost power for a while from Matthew.

Well, it’s arriving here on the South Carolina North Carolina border.
Drove a family member to Myrtle Beach international airport a few hours ago hit some slamming rain for 15 to 20 minutes. The kind that caused traffic to slow down to a crawl and turn on the emergency flashes because you can’t see a thing.

I checked the radar before I left for the airport and I knew to expect it. It was just a strong band, followed by some clearing or better said lighter rain
Now back at the border, it caught up to this area.

It will be an interesting 48 hours. I like storms as long as they are not too destructive.

We are now on our Third (I think) Tornado warning in the last 3 hours or less in our town and next door towns. Radar indicated. Im not doing anything special unless I hear freight train sounds *LOL*

The storm was a bust. Rain amounts not even close to the 20+ inches they were warning about in our area. Heck as of right now we only got 4.5 inches. I will be surprised if we get to 10 inches at this point. It was supposed to be slamming rain all last night = Nothing.
Sun and clouds right now but we will get more rain for sure but nothing like the predictions. Same old hype most of the time with these things, we still are working on being more accurate for sure.

This is the kind of thing that catches people unprepared . Nobody takes the weather predictions seriously because they're usually not accurate . Always prepare for the worst and be thankful when it doesn't happen . One day ...

WoW !
This is going to be an interesting storm with the possible effect of way more than a hurricane would have produced.
I know my neighbors along the SC lowlands and coast can experience the storm of a lifetime or many lifetimes. Only time will tell.
It's the same on my NC side of the border. As of right now, the way to soon to know NHC Forecast map, my location shows 12 to 16 inches of rain.
Being we are a newer part of the community I am not too worried (though it's not tested) though literally down the block is still mapped as a flood zone. The older section will get hit bad if we get 12 inches. I think, sort of know, our particular location on our block will be ok. I think, we still are built of swamp land so anything can go IF this turns historic, never mind the huge creek in my back yard that all the lakes drain into but ... we are the highest point almost on the block and just outside the flood zone.

"Storm of a lifetime"? You haven't been here long enough.

My friend in Old Charleston said this am that it wasn't as bad as they feared. His garage floods just with big storms and he said it was still dry. While the storm is slow moving, it seems to have large splits in it.

Nope, weather service got the entire forecast wrong. I should know by now not to pay much attention. I cant help myself because I like storms. I figured out they were wrong Tuesday afternoon. Once you notice that things arent happening as they said they were going to, you know it's not going to be what they say. Tuesday night was supposed to be brutal and it barely rained. Same with today and only around 1:30PM did it start raining, no big deal. Ive seen worse thunderstorms.

We were in the area of 16 to 20 inches of rain, Will be lucky to get half that over a three day period no less.
