Hurricane Debby

This is the kind of thing that catches people unprepared . Nobody takes the weather predictions seriously because they're usually not accurate . Always prepare for the worst and be thankful when it doesn't happen . One day ...
True, but I dont have to prepare, nothing for me to prepare for, I just like storms and we were supposed to get up to 20 inches of rain. Notice I say "up to" well they can claim they were right because will will get maybe 7 or 8 inches over a 3 day period which is nothing.
It is a problem though and I agree with you, they are wrong so often that rightfully or not, people dont want to bother paying attention, cant live your life in fear and that is what they will do to you. As I type this, weather radio alarm/alert goes off, flash flood warnings which no one pays attention too and I have no need too but if your in a flash flood area I guess you should, yet they are wrong so often like you say.

I'm still tracking some decent rain coming tonight through Friday.
Yeah, this afternoon we finally have some stronger bands coming through buts it's kind of like in waves. You can see it on the radar, a lot is missing us but not far away so I see what you are saying. We are on the SC/NC border right near the coast, almost on it.
Actually this afternoon is pretty consistent compared to late Tuesday, Tuesday night and Wed morning in this area. Still, I THINK we will get half the initial amount forecast but maybe I will be proven wrong. I really wanted to see the drainage system in this community put to the test, we moved in last year... I was hopeful this storm would test it based on the forecast the other day but that isnt going to happen, MAYBE. Last August 2023 was a better test and was hoping this one would be more, not less.
Also weather radio just went off, Tornado watch but not warning yet. We had a number or warnings yesterday. Maybe it's not over yet, will see. :)

I got over 30 inch's of rain in 2016. Seems like these "once in a hundred years" is happening more often.
Me too . 49 inches in my house . Earlier that day I told my wife that it couldn't happen . I ate my words .

Since midday Monday, about 13 inches here. Tornadoes nearby Monday/Tuesday about midnight. Edisto Island (a beach sea island) just south of here took the worst. On and off heavy rain continues as bands rotate through. No appreciable wind.

Downtown Charleston floods on just a high "king" tide, so water in streets and some streets closed as expected. But that was only for 36 hours ending this morning.

When they said a category one was going to completely cross Florida / Georgia then hit Charleston, I had my doubts. Always a good warm up to check everything out for the season, but I didn't change any plans.

20 inches of rain on the coast really isn't a huge deal. As pointed out, downtown Charleston floods with a good rain. It floods the streets turning them into creeks and runs into the Atlantic. Not a huge deal. Now a storm surge - different issue.

20 inches inland will overfill the rivers. Also different deal.

I am far enough inland that the streets don't flood but the bridges may close.

Predicting these storms more than 24 hours ahead is pretty hard.

You've got something moving 3 mph, there are going to be localized spots that just get hammered with rain bands, particularly hillsides. Then five miles away they'll get half that.

The eye made landfall about 40 miles from me. Lots of wind/rain but seen worse. Lost power for 10 hours. I have enough sticks and small branches in my yard to start a Tinker Toy factory. Clean-up is under way.

Forecast was way off for the NC/SC border. We were forecast Monday and Tuesday for up to 20 inches. I knew when it barely rained Tuesday night they were going to be wrong as the rain was supposed to be intense Tuesday night and it barely rained. As of today the sun pokes through at times as the center of the storm passes into our state (but we will get more later tonight) We only got 9inches so far, almost a non event here but still an event... and I am sure we may get another inch or so, far cry from the forecast. Nothing new there. Im kind of disappointed. I like storms and watching the weather on government sites calculating my own forecast and I pretty much got this one right compared to what they kept saying over and over.

Thursday morning: landfall was just north of here at Bulls Bay. Now just wind in Charleston but no rain. Only 2" in my rain gauge since emptying it on Tuesday. It had overflowed so can only guess how much Monday/Tuesday but Charleston downtown, 1 mile from here is reporting 10-12 inches total. Only prep I did was pull the plug on my boat that sits on a jet dock at a marina on the Ashley River and Charleston Harbor.

For us, that is just the beginning of hurricane season that peaks in September and October. I will pull the boat off the dock and trailer it home if an actual hurricane greater than a 1 is forecast to hit us.

I'm just north of Savannah. Got 12.85" of rain total and no wind damage. Luckily never lost power. Not Like Mathew where my house was flooded and we lost power for 3 days. Mathew took down a lot of trees. Was finally able to flush the toilet today (septic system). I feel very lucky. Would I move? Hell no coming from a left wing communist state.
