Warning was for dirt contamination.

This VOA is a good example of why one needs a baseline UOA to determine where the sample started. The oxidation value of this oil starts at 36, so if you don't know the baseline oxidation, you'd be inclined to throw the oil out when you see the first UOA. The normalized oxidation of this virgin oil is zero, not 36. Data is good and good data is better.

I've been waiting patiently for someone to post some HPL HDEO VOA. Thanks @MVAR for doing this. Added to the list. If any of the usual people want to argue semantics about this HPL 5w-40 CK-4 being at the top of the "Additive Package"? Too bad. It IS at the #1 spot for add pack on this list now. Nice chunk of Moly. Nice work @HPL Plant Manager.

I'm running this 5/40 CC in my whole house generator (and it'll be going in the Bronco at its next OCI). Since I'm not paying the local Generac service company $400/yr to come out to service this thing, I needed a way to "prove" that I'm servicing the unit for warranty. Figured this was a good way to show if I also keep an annual UAO sample in the maintenance folder. This VOA just gives me the starting point.

Crazy amounts of moly. Im running their normal HD5W40CK on my new 100 mile daily driver, its been flawless so far. Im just not so used to hearing my engine being so quiet during an idle warmup before driving off.

Thanks for sharing, baseline oxidation number seems right, if i remember i had around 50 when doing a 10k run with their regular pcmo line before moving to their higher saps formulations.

where did it come from?
Not sure 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m going to guess a dirty sample bottle that somehow had the cap sealed over the contamination.

I’ll add that I wasn’t wearing my glasses when pouring the sample & didn’t notice any sediment. I only put them on to fill out the sample info prior to shipping. Whatever contamination might have been in the bottle likely needed time to fall out of suspension after filling the bottle as well

I've had the same warning, then none of the progressive samples had the warning. I don't put a lot of faith in the 'dirt' warning.
Yeah, they flagged as visual debris at the bottom of the report. Who knows for sure 🤷🏻‍♂️. I wasn’t looking that closely for anything. Just opened a sealed sample bottle & filled directly from the bottle/jug. Doesn’t really concern me much
