That's nice that you "set this up for a living." Good for you.

Well it definitely beats working at Burger King, living on other people's tax dollars, ruining other people's cars and eating with food stamps.

Given your current employment, obviously you haven't setup a network worth more than $40.00.

The reason you don't understand what I'm saying is because you don't know what the [censored] you are talking about. Chipset compatibility is a legitimate issue and is usually resolved by upgrading the firmware on the AP's. An Intel wireless chip can work just fine, whilst an Atheros chipset can drop the connection every two minutes, both connected to the SAME AP. If the Mac has the Intel wireless chip, then it is unaffected. It doesn't make the Mac better or worse, but in they eyes of the end user that doesn't know any better, it certainly LOOKS like the Mac is better.

And of course a PC running the same wireless chip as the Mac would usually be unaffected as well.

Or, they are, because the network has the issue.

Prove it. Prove it's not Apple.

You are outside your knowledge area here and you REALLY shouldn't be having this argument with me. I setup these networks for a living. When I say it can be a compatibility issue with a particular brand of chipset and that other chipset brands (like say those used in the Mac's) may be unaffected it is because I have experience with this........ I'm not shooting from the hip in this thread like you are.

+1

I am not 1/100th as learned on the subject of networking.

But just looking at what was stated, it's clear as day that the issue is with her computer. It may be her hardware, or the schools hardware. But her computer is not getting the signal like it should. End of story. That's it.

As I said, if her classmates all used Sony or Lenovo computers and did not experience an issue, you would have had NOTHING to say about those brands or the users of those brands.

How you translated a simple issue with a college girl's wifi signal into Apple users are liars is beyond me.

Teach me, then. Sure, I don't know everything. Post a link?

And remember when Cable Broadband was like brand new? Like, when it was a big deal? .. I learned about it then.

Where's that link? ?

You're right, I never finished DeVry. SO?

I got scared away by the "Tech stocks bubble' bursting.. right when I entered college in early 2001. it was that year, or the year before. Scared me off! The rest is history.

You really don't know what happened with the Volvo, you just think you do. I saw the other post, responded to it, then deleted the response. All I can really say is: "See sig."

If OVERKILL "Sets up networks for a living" then surely there is a link about chipsets.

A waste of time is you trying to look like you know what you are talking about with a car that got sold yesterday but instead looking foolish.

Don't worry, QP, I'd be impressed if I could spin the chipset's tires in the snow, too. But that makes it my fault that the chipset and I are incompatible, by your logix.

For starters, here's a resolved caveats list for a Cisco Access Point:

The 6300AGN chipset card fails the link-test with Windows 7.

Here's the link to the chipset affected:

http://ark.intel.com/products/59474/Intel-Centrino-Ultimate-N-6300-Dual-Band?wapkw=6300

That took me about 30 seconds to find on Cisco's site. There are plenty more.

It's not my car that had to be sold for peanuts as a result of someone's stupidity.

Thanks.

You know what, I don't think I took my meds today. I got everybody all worked up.

Let me see...

Well, I suggested to OP's daughter that, he get this for her, for use with the Compaq. I had a CQ56 once, and I remember I didn't much like it. I ussed the Wifi on it, too. Now, without knowing anything baout what the school has, I suggested he buy this, ending in 10 minutes for $25: (It's just a Wireless-N USB stick from Linksys) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Linksys-Ultra-Ra...=item257ac032cd . OVERKILL, do you think that would do anything for OP's daughter's situation here? *by the way: I hate Apple.

Well, you are partially right, and you do know your stuff, and are respected on here, and I am trying to be mindful of all this (with OVERKILL too.) So, I'll drop a hint: I could afford "peanuts." So, saying that before I preface this: There you go again! How do you know I didn't buy the car, and stick it somewhere? Maybe I contacted some guy named "Claudio" in the Brockton area and we worked out a deal for time/labor, down the road, maybe maybe maybe? This i snot outside the realm of possibility, is it?

Think about it. I have said, time and time again, that the car got sold yesterday. And I didn't say anything else. And I put it in my sig.

Just saying.. "Free your mind, and the rest will follow."

If it has a chipset unaffected by the bug, yes, it would work. But really, if this issue is as widespread as she's led her father to believe, the school is obligated to fix it. Assuming the AP's are Cisco, they'd have service contract in place and could download and deploy the updated IOS images to the AP's to fix the problem. That's the RIGHT course of action.

That being said, as a temporary workaround, given the price of the wireless USB stick, this may be a good choice until the school fixes it.

I am no stranger to arguments on this forum.

I am no stranger to arguments with OVERKILL.

One thing I have learned is you do not get into a debate with OVERKILL, especially on the topic of technology, unless you have rock solid evidence and you know for absolute certainty your correct.

So while Overkill is compiling a mound of proof to blow you out of the water, you might want to attempt to post an artical or two if you can find anything that could be misconstrued into semi supporting your stance.

Otherwise, brace for impact.

Seriously, take your meds already, and all will be better.

You wrote on multiple occasions that you needed to consult with her to sell it. The title was in her name. It's irrelevant anyway. You destroyed that poor thing and someone lost money on it, be it you or your lady.

If you bought it from her now for peanuts, then she was the one that lost money on this deal.

And would it be logical to assume that the school's "APs" (I'd usually say "router" but that is nitpicking lol) are perhaps very old, and are maybe having trouble with sending all those packets where they need to go? I'm thinking it is on the school's end, too, and that almost EVERY device (phones included, anything on that Wifi) is affected. Just a thought, doens't mean I'm right or wrong or that I know everything, because I don't, just a thought

If you said router, you'd be wrong.

Typically in a setup like this you have an edge router connecting the LAN to the rest of the world with perhaps some layer 3 switches in the buildings doing some basic inter-subnet routing on campus. You would have dedicated wireless controllers with attached AP's running a lightweight image, downloading their configuration and being managed directly from these controllers.

This doesn't sound like an issue with elderly equipment to me, it sounds like a bug. But if the campus IT aren't aware of the issue, they can't actively work to resolve it. Cisco gear doesn't usually get old and die either. It typically soldiers on well into obsolescence and this goes for their wireless gear as well.

How about a PS3?

I have a Xbox 360. Haven't touched it in months though. No free time.

Even right now I have no free time. I'm supposed to be writing my Anthro mid term but instead BITOG has my attention. . .
