If the twin looks at least marginally juicy, then I eat it.

I agree w/Shannow, navels are dry. He has me pining for some Valencias but there aren't any where I shop now. They did have some blood navels, but I wasn't inclined to try them. Maybe I should.

They can also be fuzzy.

Calfifornia naval oranges are among the best orange variety for eating. They are the most juicy from about late January through at least February. You can tell if an orange is juicy or dry by their weight-to-size ratio. Florida naval oranges and Valencias are best for juicing.

Ummm, Oranges.

But, I have been defaulting to "Florida's Natural" Orange Juice as of late. It is not from concentrate.

A dozen round to be had tomorrow morning at the store!

What's a Calfifornia naval?

A good naval is also very easy to peel with a thick peel. very little of the pith should stick to the meat and the sections should seperate without breaking the skin. Juice oranges, like Valencias, do none of this but their juice is tasty.

A California naval is a naval grown in California, and they are a deeper orange color than are their relatives from Florida. The thick peel that is easier to remove by hand is what makes all naval oranges eating orange rather than juicing oranges. Navals also have usually much smaller pips. Of course you can peel Valencias and eat them. Valencias and navals are not in season at the same time, so I don't think they're really competing against each other.

I'll never live that down.

Usually my family buys California navel oranges or Airdome Valencia. I don't really like to eat oranges, I prefer apples.

I peel off those stickers on the fruit and save them so I know which kinds of fruits I've tried. I find that the number designates the fruit and type. #3107 is Navel oranges and #3108 is Valencia. Smaller Navel oranges is #4013.

We used to have a co-worker that saved up all the stickers from Banana and put them on the boss' office door when he went on a business trip, along with other pranks.
