On my 04 Titan 2X4 crew cab I want to make the interior noise level go down. I remember hearing about "resonators" or something that was installed on the exhaust system under the cab. Can I remove those things? Or do I have to install more mufflers? I don't care about loosing a small amount of hp.

Any recommendations? I don't want to hear the truck, feeling it accelerate is enough for me!

Resonators are to reduce noise removing will only make thing worse. Every Titan I have been in had a lot of cab noise.

You can install insulation to help noise but it's costly and a PITA

Maybe a muffler from an Armada or QX56 would be quieter? I'm not sure what you would have to do make it fit though. Those SUVs have independent rear suspensions so the exhaust routing is probably very different.

That's one of the best parts about the Titan. Oh, that wonderous V8 chorus at or near wide open throttle. I love the way they sound.

Like the above said, removing the resonator(s) will not help. The mufflers might help a bit but I think a lot of it is intake noise.

maybe the QX56 has a different intake.

I had an 04 2x4 crew like the OP and I loved the V8's visceral snarl!!

I'd give this a look:

Sound deadening your car or truck has a massive impact on what it's like on the inside. My car is like a rolling coffin. But it takes either time, or money. I spend about $400.00 total on materials, but in terms of labor... It was 2 weeks of evenings and two full weekends, and I dread having to repeat the process; but if you plan on keeping a vehicle for a long time, it's totally worth it. There's no "quick" way to quiet a vehicle. You need to remove all of the interior panels and go to work.

What type of noise is it? Exhaust, engine, road? That makes a difference. You can spend $500 on sound deadening, but that won't help much for exhaust noise. Like JOD said, sound deadening takes a lot of time and money. It will help for engine and road noise (if done correctly), and it will cut down on rattles/vibrations. I'd work with Sounddeadenershowdown. He's very helpful, and will work with you on a personal level.

It might help to run the exhaust straight out the back, with a slight downturn to the tip. Very much like older American cars.

Interestingly enough, a loud, boomy exhaust can also be addressed by bifurcating the large pipe into 2 (or more) smaller tips with glasspacks inside. The classic "Monza" tips below were designed to severely reduce low frequencies, while still sounding good. If you do this, make sure the inside diameter of the glass pack section is not too large. You'll probably need 4 tips to have enough flow.
