How to clean rusty tools

I picked up a few hundred wrenches, sockets, ratchets with a tool chest I got off a craigslist. It was a steal of a deal. Most of the wrenches and sockets are Craftsmans.

How do I clean the rust off of some of the tools that are rusty? My first thoughts are a bucket of WD-40 and scotchbrite pads.

Get some evapo rust remover. Just soak and it's like new again. Sold at Lowes, Harbor Freight, Amazon, etc.

It really works well!

+1 - its good for tools you can soak. Get a container you can put a lid on so the stuff does not evaporate.

Look up N-Terpinal. It's non hazardous and works well.

Why do that? Part of the charm of old tools.

I would think that getting the rust off the tools might not be too bad, but how are you planning on keeping the rust away?

Electrolysis is good. You can also redneck it by soaking in coca cola or molasses.

I thought you weren't supposed to us electrolysis on/with chrome plated and chrome containing alloys due to the formation of chromium VI?

I soak mine in vinegar over night. I have also heard of people using Bar Keepers Friend.
