How to block website?

I am computer ignorant. Somehow I am getting a web site put in my history list every day. It's a "live web cam site", you can guess what kind of content it would have. I do not want it on my computer or in my web history/registry. It shows up every day in my history list, and I think it comes from the profile page of a fairly new guy on www.dodgeforum.com. I have tried to delete it and it comes back every day. It never showed up and I never had this problem until this new guy became a Dodge Forum member. About a week ago I clicked on his profile to view a picture of his truck, because he had a question about his wheels and how to remove his wheel hub/bearing nuts from the spindles. I needed to see what type of wheel cover and center cap he had. I clicked the picture of his truck, and down below that were pics of girls that I do not want on my computer. You can guess what kind of pics they were.

This stupid web cam site causes the Dodge Forum site to be all scrambled when I first view it, I have to move the horizontal picture control arrows to put the page back to normal on my screen, and it disables my back button. I have to click the down arrow next to the back/forward button to go backwards when browsing. These are the things I know the web cam site does. God only knows what else it does or may be capable of doing. I see the name of the site in my history list, yet if I click on it nothing happens.

How do I stop this stupid and asinine web site from getting on my computer and web browsing history? I went on the Miocrosoft web site and followed their directions to block a web site and its cookies. Apparently that did no good. I delete it from my history and delete my temp files and there it is right back again the next day.

I appreciate any help on this.
 
I just went back into my Internet Options and went to the Privacy tab, I moved the security setting up two levels then I put the name of the web cam site in the list of sites to block, then hit apply and OK. Maybe that will do it. I did not do it that way yesterday. I set the security level back where it was after that and hit OK again. I hope I did that right.
 
Do you have Microsoft Security Essentials? It is free and says it caught a few things on my computer as I was on line. Maybe try that or some other free spy and ad-ware removal tools.

Run a scan with MSE and try to eliminate the problem. Good luck!

P.S I think I remember you from Dodgedakotas. Shame what has happened with that site with the bad posters.

If you use firefox they have an add ons screen that has a website blocker and several others.
 
I had a similar problem with my work computer. Anytime I visited this one site (thankfully it was work related), my history page was loaded with "those" sites. Our LAN support tech contacted the web master and straightened it out, since the problem resided with that particular web site.
 
If you use Internet Explorer (sounds like you do, from your options menu that you describe...?), go this route.


Open the "internet Options" go to the Security Tab. Click Restricted Zone.

Add *.nasty-webcamsite.org

And hit Add.

Apply then OK.

Obviously, you want to replace the nasty-webcamsite.org with the "actual" site you are having problems with....


In the restricted zone, this should stop the site from loading.


Another option would be to add the site to your Windows "HOSTS" file.

It should be located at C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

If it's not? Create a new "plain text" document without an extension....simply call it "HOSTS" (no .txt or anything on the end)

Open the file, go to the last/bottom line, add

127.0.0.1 nasty-webcamsite.org
enter>

Then file and save.


That should stop the page from loading

If you use Chrome, Firefox, etc....I'd say just get Adblock or a similar extension....BUT, I use IE as my "primary" browser, and do not see any ads

I think you are dealing with this well. I would run Microsoft Safety Scanner to help see if you had picked anything up. Note that it will warn on changes to the hosts file that may be intentional and not actually a problem.

Thanks for the info. I ran a full Malwarebytes scan a couple hours ago, nothing was found. The site has not come back in my history so far since increasing the security level when I blocked the sire on the privacy tab of Internet Options. I have been back the Dodge Forum this afternoon, and so far no sign of the web cam site. I will know for sure tomorrow. If it comes back then, I will try these fixes you guys suggested. As soon as I have time I will notify the mods at the Dodge Forum, but I wonder if there really is anything they can do about it.

I do appreciate all of your help on this.

Yep, I used to be on DodgeDakotas.com. Way too many trolls, punks, idiots and flame wars in there for me now. I never go on that site at all now, unless they happen to email me that there is a new reply to one of my old posts there. I don't get that very often either, I quit going there 2 or 3 years ago. Dodge Forum is a lot better.

The web cam junk was in my browsing history again today, right after I visited the Dodge Forum this morning. I emailed one of their mods about it and gave him the user name of the guy with the inappropriate pics. I will try some of the fixes you guys recommended, but I don't have time to do that until tonight. Thanks for your help.

I did both of these just now. I hope I did it right. I put the web cam site in the restricted zone, it makes sense to me that would work. I also downloaded Super AntiSpyware today. I ran a quick scan, came back with 52 spyware files and cookies on my computer. I quarrantined and deleted them all and I deleted my temp files again. I will do a complete full spyware sweep with SAS tonight when I go to bed, I have no idea how long a full scan might take. The SAS program was free and it seems to me to be working very well. When I run Malwarebytes it never finds anything. I put SAS on my girlfriend's computer too, ran a quick scan on hers, it took 11 minutes and found 330 pieces of spyware. She visits a lot of shopping/retail/tabloid/Hollywood/glamour magazine type sites though. I am sure that is where it all came from.

My computer seems to be working somewhat faster since I deleted the spyware that SAS found. I will see how it goes and see if I have any web cam sites in my browser history tomorrow. I did not get much response from the Dodge Forum mod other than to suggest running a spyware removal tool and he suggested I use the free version of AVG. He said he checked the pics in the user's profile that I thought were the source of the web cam site problem and he found nothing out of the ordinary there. He said the pics I referred to were all added by different users so it must be like one giant album on there. I have no idea. I just know I never had this problem until I clicked the pic of the Dakota in front of the cactus when I was trying to help that guy on the Dodge Forum. And if it is not from the pics or the Dodge Forum site then why does it skew the home page and disable my back button, only when I am on the Dodge Forum website? BITOG, Yahoo, any other site I use has been perfectly fine.

I tried the suggested remedies, the SAS is working well, I plan on running a scan every day. Unfortunately the web cam site was back in my history again this morning, soon as I went on the Dodge Forum website. The home page for the Dodge Forum was slid over to the right side like it has been since this problem first started. But...when I went to click the back buttom to go back to the home page I did get a message from SAS saying I was being redirected to a different website, do I wish to continue? I clicked "no" and it took me back to where I had come from on the Second Generation Dakota page on the Dodge Forum. I have no idea what to do about the web cam site problem now. I do not want the web cam junk in or on my computer but I have no idea how to stop it.
 
It really sounds like you have some sort of redirect hijack in place. Can you download and run Hijackthis and then post the log here?

If you must use Internet Explorer, adding an entry to the HOSTS file is what I would do.

However, I recommend switching to Firefox or Chrome, with the Adblock Plus extension.

IE seems to get compromised quite often in my experience.
