My next oil change is coming up soon, and i'm still debating which grade of viscosity of the Edge to go with. I'm between the 5w30, 5w20, or 0w20. I can get the 5qt jug at WM of 5w30, but as of recently, no other grades available there. I drive the car year round, and it sees southern new england winters. Mostly highway, about 80/20 or so. 15k miles/year. Looking for 8-10k OCI. Car is in sig.

I noticed that the 5w30 grade is very, very thin. I am thinking this may provide the most protection? The 0w20 and 5w20 grades look very thin for my liking, but i am unsure what my honda will prefer. I am in this car for as long as it can go for. Car is specd for a 5w20.

I want to add also this engine sees some high RPM from time to time, from some spirited driving

If the Edge is on the thin side for a 5w30 go with that and get the best of both worlds, that's what i'd do your not going to notice any mileage loss.

You could rev it high ALL the time on a good xw-20 and not worry.

You just missed the AAP deal on edge, I picked up 0w20 for my Civic. If money isn't an object you can pick up Edge 0w20 for around $9/qt. I kind of agree with what daman said Edge 5w30 is on the thin side but a little more robust so you get the best of both worlds as he said. Also, walmart usually carries 0wgt M1 AFE, but I can't remember if they have it in a 0w20. Last time I was there all they had was 0w30AFE (could be an option) but EDGE is still thinner I think. 0w20 is an expensive oil when not on sale.

If you weren't stuck on Edge, still a few hours to grab M1 5w20 or M1 AFE 0w20 for $3.99 a qt. up to 12 qts. at Advance online with in store pick up. Just sayin.

You live in Rhode Island, not Odessa, TX.
It get cold enough over the winter that any XW-20 would be fine, and it would probably be fine anywhere.
Besides, Honda recommends an XW-20 for your engine.
I would use any XW-20 without worry.

If they could, Honda would spec 0W10 oil for almost all their fleet of cars. That what one of their chief engineer said a while ago.

The 0W20 Honda oil is one of the thinnest we have seen (with the 0W20 Toyota oil). That clearly indicates Honda engines like thin oil.

So, my take would be to go as thin as you can, you cannot go wrong with these engines.

I use 5W30 Edge in my 03 Acura MDX V6 and it works fine. Since I have 130K miles, I decided to go up from a 20 weight and I have used the 30 weight oil for the last 40K miles. Fuel mileage is the same and the engine is actually quieter and runs smoother.

Fuel economy is of course not as good you just can't measure the difference.

Run what the manufacture recommends. The difference in MPGS is a tenth of a MPG if lucky and there is not a whole lot of difference between a Xw-20 and 30.

Splain it to me.

5w30 edge is 9.8 cst @ 100C. That is a very thin 5w30. I like the fact that WM has it in 5qt jugs, i'd rather not pay $9/quart for a xw-20 if i can use the 5w30. I know that honda specs a 5w20, i will see if any other local suppliers have the other grades of edge on sale. And no M1 for me, not a mobil fan.

+1 Having owned my Jeep for three years this month I've used PYB 5W20, PP 5W20, M1 0W20, Amsoil ASM 0w20, and Edge 0W20. I will be continuing to use the Edge 0W20. Of all the oils I mentioned Edge is without a doubt the quietest oil in this engine. I've read other users of Edge reporting similar results. I would use the Edge 0W20 in your Honda without any worries.

i called several suppliers local to me and no one seems to carry other grades than 5w30 or 10w30.

hmm Unless i can find the 0w20 or 5w20 somewhere for a good price, i'll be using the 5w30. WM has the 5w30 for 26$ for 5 quart jug.
