How often to change oil on snow blower?

Jersey? We had a lot of snow back in 2015 when we were stationed at McGuire. I'd probably keep it.
That was 10 year ago. It seems most "Snow Events", since then had been 2-6 inches. And it melts in a few hours. Plus my property isn't that big, sometimes all I need is a broom to clean it up. Plus you can pick a snow blower on CL or FBM, for a song these days.,,

Yes Big Cahuna.....getting too old to be snow blowin. I'll be 59 in 1-26. My back is loaded with arthritis. Use to be able to snow blow for 12-14 hrs straight. No more. Got me a long driveway too. Just gonna do where the tires meet the asphalt from now on. The worst is that heavy, wet snow. Cloggin the chute up with ice. Used some polymer spray Ariens has and it helps, until it wears off. Keeps it from sticking to the chute and augers. You know the snow, I'm not too far from you. Then if you use a plow guy, he just rips up the driveway with his chunky, old, beat up blade...Lose---Lose situation...Used my machine 1X last year, thank goodness.

Here it is the third week of August, and was just in the garage giving away unwanted lawn equipment. The guy asked me if I wanted to give away the snow blower. I'm still thinking on it. I got it from my son 5-6 years ago, and have gotten it ready for snow every fall. Only issue is, it hasn't snowed in like 5 years. But we'll probably set a new snowfall record if I give it away. I could really use the garage space, and I'm gettin too old to shovel everything. Anyone else have this kind of decision to make?.,,
If you think back on the last two winters there were several major snow events that just missed you and I by less than 50 miles. Getting rid of a snowblower is sort of tempting fate.

I loathe taking that machine out of the shed every fall !!! I use to enjoy it when I was younger,,,,no more... I'm retired now which makes things worse. I REALLY don't want to go out there and do anything. Just look at the snow from the inside of the house. The wife gotta still go to work, that's the problem. Lately, I tell her, " ahhh, just drive over it nice and easy , and don't re-use the same tire tracks ....the sun will melt it " LOL....She just gives me a nasty look.....Frig her ! :)

I'm 71, live in the "mountainous" North Jersey area. Lived in my house for 46 years, my driveway is stone at a 45* hill from the road and is 4' below the ground on either side. In other words it's a real beatch to shovel snow. I got my snow blower in 2014 after living here since 1979, and shoveling the whole time. Even though we've thankfully have had little snow lately the snow blower was still useful in breaking up and throwing the end of driveway 3' high ice pack. I also pushed the snow in the driveway with the shovel to the sides and then used the snow blower to throw it up over the 4' walls. I have a cheap low powered Troy-Bilt snow blower, but it's fairly light and at my age that's important on the hilly driveway. I also added an impeller kit some years ago and it made it so much more effective in throwing the heavy icy snow we have been getting for years. I'm keeping my snow blower :).

I last changed the oil 2 years ago but since I've not got a lot of use from it, and the oil is clean, I'll let it go another season. I run it approximately 10-15 minutes once a month along with running my generator 45-60 minutes once a month, under ~3,000W load. The snow blower starts on the first pull, the generator starts on the second pull. The generator is heavy with a 342cc engine and a large gen head, pull start only. The snow blower is using Rotella T 10W-30. It's stored in a somewhat heated garage.

Wow ! Give you credit. Have any DNA to spare ???? 71 snowblowin a 45 degree angle driveway is quite an accomplishment ! BE CAREFUL...no slips / trips / falls...My driveway is 800' x 17' asphalt with 100' X17' of that on a 22 degree angle, and then a 70' x 70' area down by garages. All day affair. Been lucky last few years, not much snow, so just drove over it. Stone driveway not easy to snowblow. Don't overdue it.

Thanks, but my driveway is a lot shorter than your area, thank goodness. Though I did take a tumble on my back this past season due to an ice base with snow on top, going down hill. Got up and kept going ;), not much else I could do. They say age is all in your mind. I beg to differ it's in your joints also. Having chronic Lyme disease for over 35 years has really done damage to my joints unfortunately.

That friggin Lyme is no joke :(....Got ticks all over my property. Keep the grass short and stay away from bushes. Painful disease. I spray and spray, doesn't matter. Just takes one . Just take it easy on those joints or you're gonna end up with replaced ones.

9 and 10 years ago I got two new titanium knees. They work a lot better, but now they clack loudly when I walk, oh well better than before with the pain

Are they wearing out ??? I know replacement knees don't last forever. Hope not. Who the heck wants to go thru that mess again. Maybe squirt some 3 in 1 oil in them to quiet them down ( They should have put a grease fitting somewhere so you could grease them up every now and again.. Cut down and the wear and tear .....wishful thinking )

Why are you using a walk behind for that sort of run, even when you were younger? Get a Kubota with a blower attachment or even a lawn tractor.

Workin on it...Money is very tight right now. We came to this specific area for the school district for our daughter. She's 13 now ( we started late, but only one kid) It's a " Blue Ribbon School District". Not too many in NY. She is excelling, which is great. Taxes are killing us. I was pretty much " forced" into retirement once I hit 55. It was the Utility Company for NYC ( Con-Ed ). Pay wasn't great. 1/2 pension now. Will be looking for another job to make ends meet a bit better. Wife makes decent money as a School Nurse, and gets plenty of overtime. Just need a little more to be more comfortable. Had a bunch of medical problems to address in the last 4 years, back surgery, gall bladder surgery, endocrine system problems ( sux getting old )... Got slammed with medical problems one after another. Wife just had back surgery too. Things are quieting down now, so I can look for a job once I complete physical therapy for my back. I'll find something so I can buy a toy for that driveway :)...The black clouds are leaving, finally. Bumps in the roads...It happens...

If 2-6 inches doesn't warrant breaking out the snowblower, I'd agree you don't need one. We're in Delaware now and got a big snow event last year, seems rare though.

My dad was 45 and mom was 31 when I was born. Im 34, older sisters from his first marriage are 57 and 47. Everyone thinks I was an “accident” 😂😂 nope was planned for sure.

When I had my knee replaced 7 years ago, they said mine should last 20 years under normal use. I take that to mean not doing heavy construction, running 5 miles every day, mountain climbing, competitive cycling, or jumping off stuff alot. I hear the wear parts can be replaced if they wear out, and it's alot easier to do them then whole replacement was.,,

Used to live in NW NJ, Montague, and every spring the blower got an oil change before storage. Same process today living in the NY ADK's. Stabilized fuel and fresh oil they will last forever except for belts and the rubber drive wheel which are normal maintenance items.
Last winter here in the ADK's I burned over 20 gallons of ethanol free gas in my snow blowers. Chief Tecumseh likes fire water.
Town recorded 186 inches of snowfall.

I wasn't good on this one...may have already answered the thread, but I did a break-in one and I believe one after, and no more, and it's a 2004. Doesn't seem to be critical, the machine already has 21 seasons under its belt. I know my brother is every season. How much longer would the machine last as a result of annual changes? Since the lawnmower is a more manageable size and more expensive, I change every season it's I forget a fraction of a quart.
