If everything is working like it should, mainly checking your fluids. How many times a month would you look under the hood? Both the Tacoma and Jetta dont burn a single drop of oil between oil changes and all the fluids look good. Currently ive been looking under the hood about every two weeks.

Maybe once a week.
I have a Land Rover discovery so I look everyday waiting for something else to break or leak.
Not often enough, maybe every 6-8 weeks.
Once I put a heater in the garage, I might do better.

About every week in summer and maybe once every 4-5 weeks in winter (usually to top uo the windshield washer fluid), too cold to even think about lifting the hood.
At least once a week.

These eco's in the Ion's are really good on oil so I don't check under the hood often. Maybe once a month. My wife's got an 08 sportage that just rolled 20K miles so I don't look under her hood too often either. I check my tire pressure more than I check my oil
Not very often now that we got rid of the Saturn! I do not miss adding a quarty of oil every tank or two of gas in the middle of winter.
The Malibu burns a quart every 2,500; so I check fluids when I need to top it off (every month or so). The van gets checked when it is oil change time.

I add washer fluid alot, so I would say 2-3 times a week, plus every saturday.

I check all my fluids when I fill up with gas each time. In the winter I do it every other time because it's too cold.
I do this because my car is my mobile office and needs to be dependable.
When I do an Oil change I check everything with a fine tooth comb and give the underneath a good look over for anything that is going to need repair.

Not very often. I have gone a full OCI without popping the hood. The truck doesn't burn or leak anything, so there's just not much to check. It's always the same story every time I pop the hood, all that changes is the amount of mud and dirt on the engine.
20 seconds versus a couple of thousand in repairs if something happened that you didn't catch in time?
Takes nothing for a seal, or filter to start leaking...
I hope you don't fix commercial airplanes for a living and if you do please let me know which airliner not to book with.
