How much used oil?

I got behind on my recycling of oil. Took it all to Walmart today. 16 gallons total. It would be nice if I could have used it to heat the house this winter. Changing oil on three cars and two motorcycles. Felt kind of bad but the guy that signed in front of me had 8 gallons. Why do we have to sign for oil recycling?

I think it's just a way of making people think, hey, I had to sign so I'd better not try to mix it with paint or nuclear waste or whatever.

You sign so they can see where the oil is coming from. This is to just ensure there not left with 400 gallons of used oil from 6 people total.

Walmart, nor any other place wants to be a oil dump for a large fleet of shop.

I'm behind on oil filters right now. I think I have 15 or so sitting in my garage right now. I'm good at recycling oil though because there's a gas station up the road that has a tank right in the back that you can put it in free of charge, no signing, no hassle, etc.

I take my oil to Kragen. I walk in they say hey man hows it doin. Take the oil to the back you know where it is.

Then I leave. lol

I take it to my dump. They use it in their furnace.

I suspect they are given maybe 5 cents per gallon. My Walmart keeps track so they know when their tank is almost full so they can call the outfit to pick it up.

Maybe statistical reasons..just heard the other day on the radio that the amount of used oil NOT being recycled is equivalent to 4 Exxon Valdez spills. Which is like 40 million gallons not being accounted for.

I always take 4-6 (5) quart/liter containers at a time. AZ made me declare how may, who I was, registered it on the computer...so that was the last time there. AAP: I just walk thru to the back and dump it. However, they just trash the filters.

I wait to the last possible time to take it.

I have at least 10 5 qt containers ready to be used.

I got a few castrol ones a ton of valvoline ones and a supertech one.

Once they are all full I take em all at once and dump them.
