How much is your MPG off in the winter cold?

I kinda have to wonder about your wife's driving habits if she's only getting 20mpg out of that car in the summer, unless it's all very short trips.

Indeed. My wife and I have had some rather heated "discussions" about this very issue. She insists that she does not drive aggressively and that the poor gas mileage is due to the amount of city driving that she does. However, I have been told from reliable sources that she is very heavy on the throttle and leaves the car to idle a lot. Oh well. Some things cannot be changed.

Your mpg is unique to your drive, car, driver, etc. I have gotten 30 mpg on the highway and 16 in the city with a lot of short trips and fast food drive thrus.

i`m down about 2-2.5 mpg`s. 19-20 mpg in the summer is nice, but this 17 mpg stuff is bad. seems like I get gas all the time now.

About 4 mpg in the Buick from the summer. I average ~27 mpg in the summer and 23 mpg in the winter. Snow tires, longer warmup times, and winter fuel all play hob with my winter fuel mileage.

The Fit is also down about 5 mpg for the same reasons. It's down from 34 mpg to 29 mpg.

We have junk fuel and junk, unplowed roads around me. All the localities do is put down salt now, they don't bother plowing until there's 2-3" of snow on the roads.

I read this and thought we must be living in the same city until I looked at your location. Maybe our municipal officials are relatives (of the inbred variety).

Changed the o2 sensor on the Festiva yesterday. I can already tell the 2+ mpg is coming back. I'm starting to think o2 sensors and spark plugs should be changed at the same time.

This entire concept of "winter blend" seems like a crock. If you end up having to burn 10% more fuel because of the blend, isn't it kind of self defeating?

I'm wondering if I should try the more expensive premium in the winter. If I get 10% better MPG, it pays for itself, and I get the added benefits of the higher strength additives that many of the premium brands carry.

I really like the fact that some states offer the premium fuel with no eth.added. I dont think my goofy state is one of tnem.

Down to 14mpg from 16mpg on the S10, also I've got a check engine light on signaling a cat converter failure, that might have something to do with it.

At least part of my problem was a lazy thermostat. Changed it, and just filled up. Hopefully, my MPG goes back to normal.

During the summers, my fuel economy has averaged 30.6 mpg (7.7 l/100km). During the winters, it has been 28.2 mpg (8.3 l/100km). So I use about 8% more fuel in winter with the Mazda3.

My MPG went down about 3-4% during winter months, from around November until March, mainly because winter gas. You guys up north get double dips in MPG, winter gas and cold temperature.
