I give this "person" 11K Cash for the 94 Impala SS and I see
the tank is Empty! I figured he would give back 1 or 2 of
th 20's I gave him. He says "the station isn't far, you should
be able to make it." I just drove away, he wasn't worth it.
How much do you leave? Happy New Year

The bike I sold earlier this year had just about full tank (which isn't that big), but normally I don't leave much if I know I am going to be parting with it.

If you think getting cheated on a used car means getting it on fumes you've been pretty lucky...

+1 I usually do this (unless it's under 1500 miles or so on what's in it) to get the buyer off on the right foot. And I can do it cheaper than they can, adding value for both of us.

You know they're going to buy gas, but you don't know if they're ever going to open the hood again.

I wouldnt sell a car with less than a 1/4 of a tank. I sold cars before and even traded them, whatever gas was in the tank. but if it was that low, 1 or 2 gallon, I d put some in it. Thats just character.

I'd probably leave about a quarter tank. and I would change the oil first. With the best stuff I could buy reasonably, as said you never know when it's going to get changed next.

I never let my car have the low fuel light on. So at least 2.5 gallons in the tank.

I would never hand it over with the light on.

Standard in my state is 1/4 tank from a used car dealer.

Private sale is whatever's in the tank, but I wouldn't leave less than a quarter...

When I sell a car to a private owner I give them a Full Tank of gas...On top of that I have the oil changed and wash and wax the car the day before they pick it up...I want them to be happy campers when they leave...I have always done this.

Now if I trade it in to the stearlership that is another story.

Never sold a car, but probably leave half a tank in it. And change the oil with the cheapest oil and filter locally available.

Me too.

my mom allways said that my dad would trade a car just after putting a new set of tires on or just filled the tank.

just had to chuckle, my fuel light was glowing red hot when I got mine, the [censored]!

I'd change the oil first. I wouldn't go to the trouble of filling it up, but I'd make sure it's got 1/2 a tank or more. When I picked up my Jeep, it had about 3/4 of a tank in it.

Thats what I do. I care about the individuals who buy from me.

i fillup when tank gets to 1/8 empty when using ethanol gas..when you gas up at say, 1/2 tank then you get ethanol buildup..so let your tanks run 1/8 empty then fill up.
